He represented the school well, however, participating in numerous meets and consistently returning with medals. In March, Deppe traveled to the Texas Regional High School Champi- onships at SMU in Dallas. April 13-19 to take part in the National YMCA Swimming Championships. This turned out to be the largest swim meet ever seen anywhere in the world . On Friday, May 2, Deppe splashed his way to a new state record dur- ing the State AAA Swimming Competition held in Burnett. The Bulldogs had powerful hitters, good fielders and great team spirit going for them. Having an unblemished pre-zone record, the Dogs lost only to Kilgore and Pine Tree in Zone play giving them the top spot. The Dogs, aiming for their second consecutive District Title, then faced Athens in playoffs. Carthage easily won the first of three games against Athens with a score of 10- O, but the Athens Hornets came back strong to win the second game 8-'7 . The two teams met in Kilgore for the last of the three-game contest. Each team played a very tight game, neither allowing any scoring for eight straight innings. Finally, in the bottom of the ninth, Athens managed to score capturing the 9-AAA Dis- trict Title. For the 1975 PINE BURR staff, this fact became a terrify- ing reality, especially as dead- line time rolled around. Many of the decisions for the PINE BURR were made at a work- shop held at Trinity University in San Antonio last summer. There the book's theme and overall design were decided upon. The staff members who attended the workshop worked many late hours to earn the award of Best Year- book Dummy for the second year. f Q? , V, K fzis-fziinf . -. Quik? ti Y - ,.-,tf..,.,- A y . .
