Sophomore English students concentrate while being given BA, MA writing assignment Latin, English Education Provides a Link Education links the students to the community. Through the numerous courses taught at Carthage High School, students not only learn readin', ritin', and 'rithmeticf' but also learn how to become a productive part of the community. In the four years of English offered, students are acquainted with the art of communication, and are taught the rules vital to all future careers. By the use of the two CHS publications-the CAR- THAGINIAN and the PINE BURR-journalism students serving on these staffs inform the community of important school activities, curriculum and extra- Curriculum. Three years of Spanish and two years of Latin, help students to link their community to communities of foreign countries. Eric Joffrion and J. J. Rushing perform an experi- ment in Chemistry lab. Through the mathematics, science, and social studies departments, students learn to solve problems and to be more aware of the ever-changing world as well as their own community. Carthage High School's mathematics curriculum offers courses ranging from basic arithmetic to trig- onometry and solid geometry. Biology, a subject required for all students, may be followed with more advanced courses of chemistry and physics. In addition to teaching students history, the social studies courses, through Civics, help to develop better citizens.
