if if Y at r. Q.M. Resigns Superintendent of the Carthage schools for the past thirty-nine years, Mr. Q. M. Martin has successfully developed the educational potential of the Panola County area. Under his able leadership, the Carthage Independent School District has been one of the nation's pilot schools for several years. His trips to Europe and to Russia to study foreign education systems show his extreme devotion and active interest in the progress and development of high principles of education in the United States and Texas, and with the unself ish concern for education on the local level. Mr. Martin's interest in art and culture appreciation in the area, his work in the church, and his sense of responsibility as a civic leader have earned for him the respect and admiration of the citizens he has served. Accepting a position as pro- fessor of English at Lon Morris College at jacksonville, Mr. Martin-administrator, artist, and friend of education -leaves the school system with a firm foundation for progress in the future. 32
