LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the Senior Class of Carthage High School, Moore County, North Caro- lina, Year of 1953, being in good health and the usual state of mind, do hereby bequeath our abilities, privileges, and high office, here at Carthage High in the following manner. To the faculty we leave our patience -- also, our deepest gratitude to them for their understanding, deligence, and example. To the Juniors we leave all the Senior privileges. To the Sophomores, congratulations for getting this far. And for the Freshmen, we leave with sympathy. Buddy Baker leaves his frankness and influence to Mrs. Middleton. Margaret Ann Frye wishes to leave her freckles to Charles Flinchum, so he'll have some to spare. To Wilma Simpson, Laura Dowd leaves her ability to take dictation in long- hand. Jo Rae Fulk bequeaths her blond hair to Frank Thomas so he won't spend all his allowance on peroxide. To Barbara Brown, Mary Allen McDonald leaves her place on the annual staff. Dolly and Dorothey Craven leave to Shirley and Shelby Boyte their knack for dressing like twins. Betty Seward leaves her giggle to Joan Whitaker. Carolyn Boyte leaves her frown to Shirley Poindexter. Waye Brown leaves his getting along ways to his brother, Fred. Robert Barber leaves his ability to get along with the teachers to Floyd Frye. Grier Elliott leaves his ability to drive a school bus to J. L. Boyte. D. A. Fields leaves his sarcasm to Eugene Pressley. W. D. Frye leaves his vocabulary to Mr. Isaacs. Algene leaves his laugh to anyone who can use it. Bill Flinchum leaves all his excess units to Jane McLeod. Billy Ray leaves his husky frame to Jerry McLean. Bobby Flinchum leaves his ability to talk like a yankie to anyone who wants it. Bobby Taylor leaves his Peace Treaty with Mr. Isaacs to Lee McCaskill. John Lowe leaves his ability to skip school to the whole student body. l, Mildred Motsinger, do leave the Motsinger ability to make good grades with- out studying-to Ruth Douglas Currie. Vivian McNeill leaves her dignity to Sylvia Blue and Shirley Chrisco. To Charles Flinchum, Bill Holder leaves the office of Student Body President. Margaret Lou Frye wills her slender figure to Betty Lois Fields. Shirley Ann Whitaker leaves her natural curly hair to Ruth Oliver. Albert Simpson leaves the girls to all the Junior boys. Billy Sabiston leaves his ability to sing bass to Pete Holder. Ralph Gilmore leaves some of his red hair to Mr. Isaacs. Shirley Yow leaves her dark complexion to Helen Rose Pressley. J. D. Monroe leaves his ability to get along with Mr. Isaacs to Mahlon Lane. H. W. Frye and Felton Marsh leave their brown noses to Brantley Kelly and Junior McKinney. Sylvia Davis leaves her ability to talk Miss Gabbard out ofa shorthand lesson to Susie McArthur. Alma Garner leaves her long black hair to Sue Denning. Peggy Blue leaves her walk to Glenda Penninger. Wilma Gray Blue leaves her slim figure to Becky Wallace. Gladys Maples leaves her knack of flirting to Margie Barber. Bill Frye leaves Doris in care of Carthage High School temporarily. 17

AS WE LOOK BACK As Shakespeare has said, There is history in all men's lives, and so it is in the life of the class of '53. As we near the end of our four years at Carthage High School it is natural that our thoughts wander back to that day in the fall of 1949 when we, fifty- six strong, entered this High School as 'green freshmen'. We had as our advisors Miss Meade Seawell and Mrs. Young Allen, known then as Miss Helen Boyte. With wide eyes and eager minds we started off in our first year of Latin and Algebra under Miss Eula Blue. By spring we were amazed at what we had accomplished and were looking forward to another year at Carthage High. We plunged into our Sophomore year, refreshed after our summer vacation. Again we had Miss Meade Seawell and Mrs. Young Allen as our advisors. Some of us made Beta .Club that year while others were shot by Cupid. Our Junior year was full of memories. Of course, the spotlight falls on our Junior-Senior Banquet. With the cafeteria decorated as a Southern Plan- tation and the soft music of the 82nd Airborn Band we relived the Colonial Days. We ended our Junior year activities with a day at White Lake. Finally the long awaited day arrived when we could march down the aisle as seniors. We cordially welcomed 15 students, From Life, to our class. Our senior year has been a busy one. We have already experienced some of the privileges of seniors and are looking forward to presenting our class play, touring Washington and finally receiving our diplomas. As we separate to follow our individual paths, we will long remember our days spent at Carthage High.
