Norman Kilgore Reporter .,.,... ....., J ack Frederick COLORS FLOWER Silver and Blue Rose MOTTO Out of the Harbor Into the Sea NOTES As far as I can find this is the smallest class that has entered the Carthage High School since I have been associated with the institution. So spoke Mr. Rice at the first convocation program in 1936. Yes, it is a small class, for today there are only 125 membersg but the multitude of honors that have been bestowed upon the members would indicate that quality is far better than quantity. In all organizations and athletics the juniors have predominated. On the basket- ball court three outstanding members of the varsity were of the class of 1940. The juniors play a large part in the musical organizations, over half of the soloists and quartet members are juniors, and in the recent operetta eight of the thirteen principal parts were played by members of this class. The juniors furnish the leaders for the dramatic and literary societies and the two members of the debate team are members of this class.

Wanda Evans COLORS FLOWER Blue and Gold Rose MOTTO The Door of Success Is Labeled Push NOTES The Sophomore class is well represented in the Glee Club, with many taking part in the operetta, in which Ida Brueggeman did a special acrobatic number. Most of the Spanish Club officers are Sophomores. Many other activities are supported by this class, especially the Drum and Mariner Corps. The Sophomore class has a larger number of basketball players than any other class. Letters for basketball were won by Bill Baker, Max Wine, Larry Flanigan, Herschel Bandy, and Jack Davis. Those who played football were Bill Baker, LeRoy Catron, Tom Hodscn, Jack Morris, Owen Ogden, A. H. Rogers, Paul Rush, Ernest Thomas and Max Wine. Miss Arria Murto was faculty sponsor for the Sophomore class. X X
