Text from Pages 1 - 168 of the 1980 volume:

Dedications The 1979-80 school year holds many memories for each of us. These memories include tests and assignments, great games, dances, pep rallies, band and choral festivals, drama productions, and faculty members. One teacher who has touched the lives of many and who has been in the English department for many years, is Miss Allison. Through her efforts, many students can now write term papers, make speeches, understand vocabulary words and recite from MacBeth. To her, we dedicate the 1980 Carthaginian. Two other faculty members whom all students will have sometime during their stay at C.C.H.S. or already have had is Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stein- man. Better known as Trone and Stein,” they have added to the memories and won’t be forgot- ten. To this couple, we also dedicate the 1980 Carthaginian. 2 Student Activities Sports Organizations Under- Classmen Seniors Favorite Songs Long Run My Sharona Enough is Enough On the Radio Jane Babe Pop Muzik Makin’ It Rock With You Longer Sad Eyes Lead Me On I Want You to Want Me Does Your Mother Know Blue Morning, Blue Day Fool in the Rain Good Girls Don’t Bad Girls Let’s Go Ladie’s Night PinaCalloda Coward of the County Mama Can’t Buy You Love Heaven Must Have Sent You Reunited Do It or Die Boogie Wonderland Ain't No Stoppin’ Us Now I Can’t Stand It No More When You Are in Love With a Beautiful Woman In Loving Memory of ERNEST A. Cook, Treas; B Carl. Sec. The Class of '80 has been thought of as an underdog from its meek beginning through its junior year. The final year at Carthage has changed that attitude. The Seniors started off the year with a great deal of enthusiasm and came away from Home- coming with an undeniable vic- tory in the float competition. The Senior football players had a fantastic football career finale as the team made it all the way to the state playoffs. Not to be forgotten are the high academic achievements which have been earned by members of the Senior class. As the end of their high school days draw near, the students of the Class of '80 are making the most of the remaining days. They are looking forward to “that big moment,” graduation. The magazine sales were a success with the Junior class selling more magazines than any previ- ous class. At the Homecom- ing Relays, this same deter- mination gave them a first in class competition, though an unfortunate accident led to a disappointing fourth in the class float contest. But the determination continued and the Juniors organized an enjoyable and successful prom. Welcome to the 80’s, for the Seniors. The class of 81’s determination, coupled with their talents and personalities, should make their senior year even more memorable. Mrs. Taylor Mr. Wiseman Junior Officers (I to r): J. Dye, Pres.; J. This was another successful season for Carthage Cross Country. We scored well in duel meets and highlights occurred in placing 3rd in the Hamilton Invitational and 3rd in the district which enabled us to advance to Sectionals in Leba- non for the second year in a row. We received solid per- formances from returning let- termen Mike Fisch, Brad Perry, and Bill White, as well as better than expected results from freshmen John White and Keith Blair. Building around the returning people, we hope to continue to build and improve. 93 Coach Shumaker The success of the 79-80 team this year could be more accurately measured in terms of improvement than in games won or lost. We won only 3 games, all over teams which had previously beaten us. Keys to our improvement were improved ball handling and improvement of our centers and forwards. Losing only Brad Perry and Marty Murphy to graduation, we look forward to continued improvement and more success in the next year. Coach Shumaker Rebuilding for the ... Coach Biery The Carthage High School girls Fresh-Soph basketball team fin- ished the season with a record of 12 wins and 6 losses. After losing the first 3 games they won 12 of their last 15. Each of those losses were by two points or less. With a little more good fortune they could have won the last 15 in suc- cession. I have never had a team that played any harder than this one.
