The Last Will and Testament of the Class of “61” We, the class of “61”, do will and bequeath to the “not-so-green” Freshman class ourdirtywings, corroded halos, broken harp strings, unused choir books, and angel- like attitudes in all we tried to attempt. We, the class of “61”, do will and bequeath to the sophomore class our deep interest and enthusiasm for that great institution commonly known as higher education which includes oral book reports, research papers, speeches, satires, literary compositions, Frankies, MAC- BETH, and Miss Allison. We, the class of ”61” do will and bequeath to the jolly juniors our left-over play tickets, rummage, Althea Gibson and the big jigs, stale cookie crumbs from bake sales, magazine subscriptions, salt-water taffy, and mag- nificent abilities of salesmanship. We hope you have better luck with them than we did. We, the class of “61”, do will all our dirty towels, tracked-in-mud, paint-splattered floors, slow eaters, and open class-room doors, to Milborn, master of the boiler room. We, the “Ways and Means” committee of the class of “61”, will all dates for car washes to the “Ways and Means” committee of the sophomore class. We, the Senior Class of “61 , will Jerry Aten back to Miss Allison for happy classes next year. We, the Senior Class of “61”, do will and bequeath the home economics room back to Miss Phillips for use in teaching classes. We, the Senior Class of “61”, do will and bequeath to Mr. Delabar and our Dear Teachers our model stu- dent, whom they all love and cherish--Danny “Chug-a- lug” Lasswell. We, the Class of “61”, as our final statement, desire to maintain for ourselves the knowledge gained, the friendships made, and the lasting memories of the truly wonderful experiences of our four years at CCHS. Lawyers: McAtee Brooks Coffman Smith Brewer Wittnesses: Miss Phillips Mr. Mortensen PROPHECY A few of us are going on a trip through space before the class reunion. To our astonishment we meet most of our former classmates on the way. Nancy Tanner is one of the passengers on Space Ship, Flight 61. She has just recently given up her job at Keokuk Hotel and is now residing at 41 1 2 South Venus Avenue. Judy Vance has dyed her hair black and is impersonating Ginny Tu. Terry Wilson, who has had a relapse and only weighs 100 pounds, is a chain smoker and gets very nervous at the sight of sheriffs----seems he had a close call with a sheriff’s daughter once. Before blasting off, we decide to visit the science research center near the launching pad. The first person we see is Judy Murphy. She’s still one of those “down to earth” girls and doesn’t even want to go with us. Judy is the secretary to Gary Harrington who is researching a comparative study of the advantages and disadvantages of the female species from the different planets. Next to his office is Dave Larson’s. Dave is still busy with his little slide rule--computing possible future population. Across the hall is the office of a famous electrical engineer. Former Donna Smith, is assistant to the re- nowned Dr. D. Hartweg. Their present project is per- fecting a new hookup system. They now have two small children, AC DC. Donnie Rosenboom is also a famous research scientist, only he can’t figure out what he is researching. If it weren’t for his assistant, JudyOrum, he couldn’t remember what he is doing. We’re sorry to hear that we just missed Marlene Snyder Kenny Stone- king. They were just married and are now on their way to Pluto for their honeymoon. It takes ten years to get there. It is now time to leave earth. We are overjoyed to find Jane Sheets as our stewardess on our flight through space. Jane seems to have a special technique for relaxing passengers. Just before take off three other passengers come dashing out to our launching pad. The first one is Clarene Brewer, who is gossip columnist on the McAtee Express. Next is Larry Leonard. He was fast in high school, but he is even faster now. Just a few inches ahead of him is Sharon Seaver, all winded from-----playing---- her clarinet. Clarene tells us of the whereabouts of some of our former friends. It seems Kenny Coffman couldn’t make up his mind. Remember all those Sr. noon hours in the Home Ec. Room. He is now serving time for bigamy. Ronnie McAtee Anne Seiler are still digging. Their favorite discoveries are old stills and wine jugs. Carolyn Housewright has gotten a well-paying job as production manager for subscribers of “Way Out.” The conversation is interrupted by Kaye White, a cigarette girl for Winston’s. Our first stop is Mars. We turn on the radio and who do we hear but Dan Lasswell. Dan is now a famous radio announcer in Mars, but he is more renowned for having taught little Martian girls all about the Hoochie Koochy. Looking out the window we see a Rozell Milk space ship, and discover that Phil Minor now has an interplanetary milk delivery. Our stop-over in Mars reminds us of the international incident not too long ago. Paul Campbell perfected a hair grower and accidentally spilled it on a little green martian, almost starting a war. Not far from the rocket-port is the meteorite resort owned by Tom Houghton and Dave Nelson, best known for its Pink peach and cherry trees. We are signaled that we can proceed on our journey by Gary Ancelet, chief gold bricker of the National Space Guard. Not long after take-off, we hear some strange sounds and are informed that it is nothing to worry about. Mary Chapin and Steve Foehrhaveachainof small “fairs” throughout the universe. We pass a small lonely outpost and get a glimpse of Butch Mumpower, who is stationed on this lonely satellite with nothing to do but dream about his past nights on Earth. Another short stop is required on Mercury, and we are later glad of it, for we meet a few other of our friends. Thanks to Tom Cramer, all the Mercury misses are curly-haired. Mike O’Connell is participating in a golf tournament and is griping about losing golf balls. When he gets off a good drive, it just keeps going into orbit! Shirley Huls and Mary Castrodale are show girls who use stardust instead of balloons! We are almost wrecked during take-off by a hot-rod astronaut. Lowell Russell is still driving a jalopy--space style. No sooner do we get on course than another hopped up rocket goes whizzing by. Lehr is still chasing boys, only now she has her rocket ship. As we near Saturn the T.V. is tuned in, and on the screen appears Bob-Alouie- Biery, on a science fiction show. He plays all the monster parts. He is followed by the Sportscast. Donna Duffy is still Davenport wrestling Champ in the ladies division and Marcia Faulkner is entered in the stock-car race on the Saturn Speedway. George Kinman, who started his business only a few months ago but is already doing quite well, has an establishment known for its universal appeal. At Jupiter we arrive in time to attend the concert by the Jupiter University Glee Club with soloist Jim Ufkes. His voice has changed and he now sings lyric soprano. On the return voyage, John Frey, official censor for all literature leaving Earth for other plants, (Playboy, Gem Ace). We are saddened by the information that Linda Boyle in an attempt to wear a darling space suit, size 2, went on a crash diet. Now she is but a shadow of her former self. However, we needn’t worrytoomuch, as Ron- nie Humke is a Private Eye, who specializes in shadowing shadows! The pilot announces that we should prepare ourselves for a small shock. We are going to pass through the Twilight Zone. It turns out to be more of a shock than expected--Ronnie Geissler, Dick Jenkins, Donnie Boyer, and Jim Jones have taken up permanent residence here! After leaving this inner sanctum, we pass a rocket ark. Larry Stoneking has reformed and is now an interplanetary traveling gospel salesman. The only problem is that he keeps running red lights. Hovering over the ark is Marilyn McMillen, who was killed by a mad scientist and now she truly sings like an angel. She is usually accompanied by Jerry Aten and John Huett who are now in the employment of Gabriel. Their boss is Mr. Mortenson, who was one of our spon- sors who is now in charge of Gabriel’s horn section. The last stop before Earth is the moon. Here we find Connie Smothers and Keith Wear. They decided they had looked at it so long, they might as well see it first hand. They tell us that Dick Scheuermann has a distinguished position in the Marine Corps. He is a stand-in for the space monkeys. Back at Earth we are greeted by important govern- ment officials. First is the reception line. Harvey Hale, Larry Wolfe, and Larry Hull represent the typical earth- lings. They are the ambassadors from earth to other planets. Next comes Cathy Rice, a diplomat who believes in very personal diplomacy. She tells us that Bev Rings is now manufacturing little rings and Pat Dunsworth, who thought she would get a lot of dough, is merely making bread. There seems to be one more person, who was very important in the success of our class--our sponsor Miss Phillips. She is not here on earth any longer. After serving as our class sponsor for four years, she went into orbit, but can still be seen every evening whirling across the sky.
