Janet Kimmell 3. Beverly 4. Karen Sue 5. Keith, Lorna, Vernie Class Prophecy The year 1979 finds us taking many long journeys to check up on the Class of 1959. The schedule first called for a trip to Russia. We were allowed by special permission passage through the “Iron Curtain” to visit three prominent students. Bill Gavillet and JohnNeff, U.S. Ambassadors, were sent to Russia to “Crack the Iron Curtain.” They had little success, so they are now working on the Bamboo Curtain. Bob Bulkley, a U.S. foreign news correspondent to Russia, had only one comment when he learned of the switch--“May the Iron Curtain rust in peace.” When we arrived in Russia, we were immediately aware of a tenseness by all the people. We were soon informed by Judy Mumpower, the girl at the information desk at the airport, that the day before, a revolt had been staged; and an uprising had been in the making since then and was expected to explode any minute. The struggle was expected between the Bolsheirki, Connie Jo Vance, and the Liberal Conservative, Leanne Kennedy. We learned that the rivalry between Connie Joe and Leanne stemmed from an old feud tracked back to the good old days at C.C.H.S. The Bolsheirki party had once been the only party, but under the crafty propaganda applied by the Conservative Party’s propaganda expert, Helene Osterhouse, the party has made great strides. We wanted to stay around to see the activities of these great leaders; but according to our schedule, we had to move along. Our next stop was Italy, which has for years been trying to develop a new style of theatre produc- tion to close out the English domination of the stage. The Italians finally succeeded. Elaine Morrow and Ellyn Chapin are sensations of the Italian stage. Betty Hardy and Linda Bergman operate a hotel in the land of the “Leaning Tower of Piza.” It’s entitled “The Tilton Hilton.” As we arrived in India, we found Melba Welch to be the head of a chemical research plant in India. Her latest product is chloryphylled aspirin, which is her remedy for those stinking headaches! Dick Scanlan is her laboratory technician. Other plant supervisors are Barbara Seaver and Mary Lou Huls. Next we traveled to China, and we were surprised when we learned that several former Carthage students were owners of business foundations. Joe Smith was the proud owner of the “Smith, Smith, Smith Firecracker Manufacturing Company,” with Charles Lovell as his chief aid. In the city of Shanghai, we found Lee Reed and Dwayne Gregory to be co-owners of a fleet of rickshaws. Traveling to the edge of the city, we were somewhat abashed to see a brand new factory with huge neon lights which read, “Rediger’s Plastic Toothpick Manufacturing Company.” We learned, however, that he had just gone out of business because the Chinese found out that the toothpicks were not flavored. Gerry Dulaney now owns a chain of Super-Valu stores scattered throughout China. As we were walking through one ofhis stores, we complimented him on his success, and found Ruth Kern and Janet Kimmell to be the cashiers. Charles and Clarence Husted are the proud owners of a new style of industry. They manufacture wise cracks! In our journey cross country to Tibet, we were warned about the antics of the “Abominable Snow- man.” This proved to be famous last words as a landslide came hurtling down on us. We had a few spare hours and were in a rare mood, so we went on a chase after the “Abominable Snowman.” We were continually besieged by a barrage of snowballs. All of a sudden the barrage stopped and everything was dead quiet as we entered the zone of the Snowman’s habitat. As we rounded the last cliff, we were right in the passageway of the Snowman’s cave; and who should confront us but the “Abominable Snowman” himself, F rancis Miller. We made our way to Tokyo, Japan, where we found out that Sylvia Schone operates a shoe shine shop. It is entitled “Shine, Schone, Shine.” American style Rock n Roll has recently stirred up quite a sensation in Czechoslovakia by two American stars. Karen McMaster and Judy Kinman, with their real hep jive, keep the ’ol cats inCzech- oslovakia swinging in the streets. As we crossed the Eurasian plains, we encountered a wandering gypsy band with Judy Dunn playing her saxophone. We were on our way to Africa, but we felt we couldn’t resist stopping to visit the former students in England. Ephriam Carson now takes his permanent residence in Heartbreak Hotel because the one and only Janice just said “I don’t.” When we arrived in London, we heard the disturbing news that one of our former students was under the supervision of a specialist at the London hospital. Investigating further, we found Karen Lehr to be awaiting a delicate operation for having dropped the set out of her ring on her foot. Just before we reached our destination in Africa, we stopped for a visit in Egypt where we learned that they are trying to revive the use of pyramids for graves. We went through a portion of the Egyptian desert which was roped off and was for lease for building pyramids. We walked over and observed the biggest and most beautiful pyramid. On it was the following inscription. “Lorna Junk, our leader.” Traveling into the heart of die African jungle, we made a major contribution to society. We now know who Tarzan is: Gerald Jones. As we come on the scene, we find Tarzan feeding bananas to Kenny Jenkins. Larry Jenkins and Sharon McCullough run a banana manufacturing company to keep Tarzan sup- plied with bananas. In these days, Tarzan seems to be the romantic style. We last saw Sheena (Kathy Wemhoner) and Jane (Pat Scheuermann) each swinging from the treetops limbering up for an unavoidable battle over the companionship of Tarzan. Also in the heart of the jungle, Dot Delabar and Fred McMillen operate a zoo. Stan Whitaker just left on a wild game hunt—his prey? WormsI He was just informed that chocolate-covered worms are a delicacy. We just saw Karen Sue Thompson. The doctors say there is not much hope for her because she was on the diet of fried grasshoppers and roasted elephant trunks too long as a missionary to the pygmies. Judy Boyer and Bonnie Cox have just introduced an old maid’s society to the natives in Africa. Herman Hanks and Frank Simmons are stars on the Congo Jungle Football Team. They use cocoa- nuts instead of footballs. A sensation has been created by reviving the primitive Congo beat in the weird jungle dance used to ward off evil spirits in the African jungle. Tom Lentz and his Congo band with Tom Bell on the Congo drums have brought this style of music onto the hit parade, thus keeping Carthage style of music moving in all parts of the world. Equally sensational has been the stream of customers to Lorna Lionberger’s lionberger stand. While we were preparing for our return trip home, we were warned that recently many ships had been plundered by a ship of women pirates harbored in the waters off Tunisia. Sure enough, we had no sooner gotten out of the coastal waters when a schooner bearing a black flag with a skull and crossbones painted on it came along side of us. Suddenly a loud speaker boomed a message across to our ship, All hands on deck prepare to man safety boats, we’re taking over your ship.” We noticed immediately that it was a woman’s voice. We were taken aghast when we saw none other than Carol Brewer coming over in a little motor boat preparing to take over our ship. She was quite embarrassed when she found out it was we; and she told us that Linda Burrows was the captain of the pirate ship, with Barbara Morgan and Mary Cay Frisbie as first mates. So instead of a raiding party, we had a reunion. When we landed in Cuba, we were informed that Kay Jones and Elaine Ward, rebel rousers in Cuba, recently staged a revolt against the government of Fidel Castor-oil. Castor-oil fled the country for fear of his life and a republic was immediately proclaimed in favor of the peace-loving Jones and Ward. We traveled on to Brazil and immediately were transported out to Sue Lucasey’s ostrich ranch. Sue says there is quite a market for ostrich feathers these days. As we traveled back to the United States, we were reminded about the success of all the former students, and we knew that this Class of 1959 would long last in the minds of all of us. Maybe you have noticed the absence of Dave Crum, Bill Gelhaar, H. F. Rothert, and Larry Ganion from this report. Well, they have a new song out now entitled “Four Stars.” What about Chuck Roeth? He pined away because he wasn’t considered a star. Respectively submitted, Miss Allison Lefty Wilson. As the doors open, so must they close. To the graduates of Community High School, the closing signifies an ending and a beginning. When we think back on the past four years and remember all the big events and little incidents of our school days, it makes us sad - yes, but it makes us proud too. Proud that we have been a part of this school, proud of our fine teaching staff, and proud of our student body, We realize that these doors of opportunity have prepared us with the knowledge to choose the right doors in the future.
