The Future Homemakers of America is a national organization of students who study home- making in junior and senior high schools. We work together for better and happier home life for all. We think that helping to makehappy homes, now and in the future, is the most important thing we can do for democracy. The activities of our chapter this year have included a freshman party with the F.F.A., National F.H.A. Week, Christmas Caroling Party, Freshman Induction, Heart Sister Week, Mother and Daughter Banquet, Farewell Party for Seniors; we served the F.F.A. Banquet, Kiwanis, and Faculty and observed United Nations and Civil Defense Day. We sent a delegate to Leadership Camp, where we received section and state awards. The Future Farmers of America is an organization open to boys taking agriculture and who plan to enter work connected with agriculture. This year the chapter had delegates at the State and National conventions. Our chapter received the award for the outstanding chapter in the sec- tion, and our parliamentary procedure team ranked second in the section contest. Earl Duncan received first place state dairy award; Robert Coffman placed in the final ten of the state public contest; Larry Junk, Ray Murphy, and John Johnson were awarded state farmer awards. To finance their activities, the boys sell popcorn at home basketball and football games, sell garden seeds in thespring, and sell Christmas cards at Christmas time. FAMILY CIRCLE, a three-act comedy based on episodes from the life of the famous Skinner family, was presented by the Junior Class on November 9. Cornelia, who had always dreamed of becoming an actress, found it difficult when her parents insisted that she go to college. The problems were solved by a happy ending when Cornelia and Father came to an agreement. The costumes which are worn in the play were of the style of the early 1920’s. The play, directed by Mrs. Orma M. Hedgcock, proved to be a hilarious success. HOMECOMING The crowning of the queen climaxed Homecoming activities. These started with a snakedance on the preceding evening. The floats of the parade -- always a highlight — featured themes of popular songs. First place was awarded to the Cheerleaders; second place to the Junior Class; and third place to the Dramatics Club. The Homecoming dance followed the football game with Macomb. Beautiful decorations of autumn colors served as a background for the dance and the crowning of the queen. This classic of American life pictures the Frake family as they attend the State Fair in Des Moines. It tells of Mother and Dad with their entries for prizes: home-made pickles and Blue Boy; the romantic interests of Margy, Wayne, Harry and Eleanor; Pat, the newspaper man; the barker; Emily, the girl at the fair; and Mrs. Rallins of Keokuk, Iowa. The storekeeper keeps an interested eye on all the family until the solution of the Frakes problems brings the play to a happy end.
