IVY-COVERED WALLS Within these ivy covered walls Where day by day we met With fellowship and happiness And friends we’ll not forget. There lie the pleasant memories Of happy days gone by, Of battles fought and battles won And there our hearts will lie. And someday as we reminisce This Yearbook will recall The many joys we knew within These ivy-covered walls. Russell Tucker COMMUNITY H. S. DISTRICT 312 Carthage, Illinois 1951 rJ ec ' ica tion His sense of fairness and sympathetic under- standing of our problems has helped to make our school life a very happy experience. Her attendants were Doris Ufkes, Lois Ann Frey, Dorothy McClanahan and Bennie Boyle. On Thursday evening, October 19, Homecoming began with students gathering in front of the old building. They formed a snake chain, led by the cheerleaders, and started uptown. The snakedance ended with the pep meeting at the park, around the traditional bonfire. Friday dawned windy, but warm, and the morning was broken by last minute de- tails and excitement. The pep meeting was held outdoors shortly after 1:00. Then the parade began. It was lead by the major- ettes, the band, and the firetruck. There were many clever floats. First prize went to the Juniors, second to the F. F. A. and third to the Freshman float. We remembered their score against us from the preceding year! The weather was cold, but the Blue Boys played a wonde rful game and we won easily 48 to 0. Then the stands quickly cleared as people hurried home to get readyfor the big event of the Homecoming --the dance. The gym was beautifully decorated with an outdoor scene. Good music was fur- nished by Tiny Biggs and his orchestra. The climax of the evening came with the crowning of the Homecoming Queen, Dona Wear. Shortly after midnight the crowd began to fade, thus ending another perfect Homecoming, one to be remembered. Sophomore Float C. C. Colorful, alive, stage-struck Cornelia and wide-eyed, naive, and calm Emily are involved on ship board with drown - ings, thievery, romance, and evenmeasles. All ends happily when Cornelia unexpectedly is found to have a great deal of dramatic talent by her father when she acts out her drab future life as a secretary for an insurance agent and later a plain mundane housewife. Her dream comes true. GARARD'S West Side Square WCAZ 990 Kilocycles SENIOR CLASS PLAY The senior class play, Tish, was presented by the Seniors April 17 and 18 at 8:00 P. M. in the high school gymnasium. This is the story of Lititia Carberry, Tish, who is a middle-aged spinster. She is blunt, outspoken, and entirely lovable. She informs her two boon companions, Lizzie and Aggie, that she is determined to getcloser to nature. So, she buys a second-hand car and theystart out, but not before Lizzie has secretly wired Tish's young nephew, Charlie Sands. He flies down to the southwest in his plane and stops off at The Eagles Hotel some whe re near to the Mexican border. Lizzie and Aggie come limping into the hotel shortly afte r Charlie's arrival. Tish arrives in due time after having driven through the plate glass window of Luther Hopkins, across the road. Events move fast. When the hotel safe is looted, Tish drags Aggie out with her to start a search. The result of that search is that Tish takes Aggie up in the air in Charlie's plane, loses control of the plane, drops Aggie off on the roof of the barn and then soars upward again. The following day the newspape r headlines proclaim that a lone female spy has been sighted flying over Mexico and Tish becomes the center of international complications. Whether she is trying to help Aggie re cove r her lost teeth or striving desperately to straighten out the tangled romances of her nephew and Ellen Leighton, who runs the Eagles Hotel or the romances of Bettina Trent and Esley Andrews she is always off on a tangent into somebody else's affairs. Tish is also an amateur detective and in the end of the play she gets the criminal much to everyone's surprise. mm EDWARD B.
