MI school issues go through the governing body which represents the student body. This year President Dan Jordan. Vice President Lisa Strehlow. Treasurer Lisa Holfman. and Sec- retary Glenna Brown led a determined and dedicated group of student leaders. The group aspired to ensure that each aspect 01' student life, whether it be academic, social, or religious, was worthwhile and enhanced the overall college experience. This was not an easy task, and therefore required long, heurs and endless meetings. The members of Student Government ig- nored these burdens and immersed themselves in their never ending quest to ensure that the students of Carthage have some say in what happens to them. Thejob of being a liaison between students and adminis- trators had its difficulties. Student Government has worked to calm emotions and establish communication and understand- ing between the two sides. They did all they could to enSure that Carthage College remained a place where students and the administration could peacefully coexist. 46 S.G.fSAB SAB The. We had no pin. crest, mot- to, or even a name. But we did have a dream orbecoming a true sorority. Tempcmary.r olficers were elected and a name, colors, newer, crest, and motto were chosen During the spring of1967, we held open rush because we were notyet a chartered sorority. From this rush we added seven members, bringing our char- ter membership to twenty. Although we were not yet a html- fledged sorority , we were an active organization on campus. We per- formed several service projects for the school, we participated in inter- Clreek activities. we held social events, and ended the semester with the highest grade point aver- age. In May of1967, Sigma Alpha Chi received its charter as a social sarority. While continuallyr striving for the ideals of unity and sisterhood. the women ofSigma Alpha Chi have Tee alized their dream of becoming a true sorority at Carthage College. Sigma Alpha Chi sorority is still striving to maintain its ideals, and yet manage to have a lot of Fun while we are at it This year our activities included: Hayride lwith the theme Roll in the hay with an Alpha Chiiii, bowling iwith the infa- mous Squiresi, Christmas earoling at the nursing homes in henosha. ushering at services, formal at the Americana in Lake Geneva and coming up we wili be helping with Special Olympirjt We have founda lot afather ways to have fun this year, but still managed to maintain the highest Greek grade- point. SIGMA ALPHA CHI 61 Kappa Chi's May 25, 1965 brought with it a new sodal organiza- tion - Kappa Chi Omega, a local sorority Since that day. Kappa Chi Omega hasjoined over 400 women in the uni- fying bond ofsisterhood, Our women have found their col- lege days enhanced because of this membership. We are proud of our emphasis on academic excel- Ience. but we realize that everyone has a need for more than t'book learning, therefore, we have incorporated a va riety ofsocial and service activities into our busy,r sched- ulesl Several ofour functions have become annual affairs. Our semi-formal. called Wine and Cheese, is held in the fall. In the spring is our formal, held this year at Woodfielcl Hilton in Arlington Heights Also in the spring, we hold our annual Spring Alunni Bash to honor our alumni. Each se- mester Kappa Chi Omega does a service project In the past, we have taken part in the Kenosha Soup Kitchen as 62 KAPPA CHI OMEGA well as visiting and entertaining at nearby nursing homes. In the fall of198?. wees did all the other sororities,assist- ed in the Presidential Inauguration. Even during the surn- mer, we find time to get together for our weekend retreat. Awareness olothers both outside and within our sis- terhood is vital. We try to support all other Greek. organi- zation by donating to their fundraisers and service pro- jects. Our sorority is. composed of sisters with various backgrounds, interests. and talents; sharing common ideals, standards. purposes, and goals as well as under- standing. 1. Back Row: Lynne Vojtko.
