We interviewed five students who had some unique characteristics about them such as Kim Voigt working at Alpine Valley, Kerri Puleo in her sisterlbrother band, Kathy Dickfoss belonging to the NWTA and Natasha and Nicky Krikoiian from Lebanon. We hope you find this an interesting addition to the book. Kim Voigt Kim Voigt, a sophomore from East Troy, Wiscon- ! sin, has a job many of us woutd tike to have. Kim works backstage at Alpine Valley. Her job entails selling tickets and taking pictures. Some highlights of her job include taking pictures of Rick Spring- field, Bryan Adams. the Stray Cats, and Wang f Chung. Bruce Springsteen. she remarked, was the a most impressive performer. He was well-rehearsed and prepared for any mishaps. For example, he . had back-up speakers to replace the regular , speakers if they faited to work. Even though her job in the winter - setling lift tickets at the ski resort I e is less exciting, she enjoys that too. After all, who wouldn't enjoy a job that combined glamour and fun! Kathy Dickfoss - Kathy Ueftt with her mom in their costumes. Kathy Dickfoss, a sophomore, has a unique hob- by. She is a living history enthusiast. She belongs to the Northwest Territory Alliance tNWTAt. a group dedicated to bringing the eighteenth century alive for the public. On certain weekends during the summer months, the NWTA sets up authentic campsites all over the midwest. One can see can- vas tents, women cooking over open fires, tomahawk competitions, authentic dancing, as well as mock battles between the British and the Americans. Being a part 01 this group. Kathy has learned a great deal about the eighteenth century. She has also travelled with the group to Rome, New York, and Greenfield Village. Being a member of NWTA has influenced her to pursue a humanities major with a history minor. Natasha and Nicky Krikoiian Natasha and Nicky Krikoiian are originally from Lebanon. Three and a half years ago they travelled to the United States in search of safety and an education. During their time here. they have noticed some interesting differences be- tween the US. and Lebanon. One of the first impressions they received was friendliness. They had met quite a few people while vacationing here. but everyone, they :: remark. even strangers, say hello. Some big differences occur in the area of education. First of all, government funded col- leges and universities do not exist in Lebanon. The college and universities that do exist have little financial aid, 3 condition which makes ob- r taining a higher education difficult. High schoois too are different, even in how they operate. For exampie, in a school in Lebanon the students do not change classrooms; rather, the teachers move from u class to class. KtI Still another difference is the Lebanese I studentsi curriculum. When a student reaches ' ninth grade, he must choose either a science or literary curriculum. Furthermore, the Lebanon school system requires a minimum of two languages. For Natasha and Nicky and their Lebanese friends, speaking four languages is not unusual. Depending on where they are living and to whom they are speaking, Natasha and Nicky fluently speak Arabic. Armenian, French or English. Natasha and Nicky have returned several times to Lebanon. Even though they like the United States, they like to go back to visit their home country. I'yii' Kerri Puleo Twenty-four year old Kerri Puleo is a very talented senior. Besides working towards her Business and Marketing degrees, she sings in a band called Double Take with her brother. This was not the first band she performed in. Others include Smile and Wa-Ta-Taa. The band mostly performs at lounges. private parties, and weddings. Kerri also has an Associate of Arts degree from College of Lake County. Singing in com- mercials, doing studio work and performing originals is Kerriis dream but she decided to have some business knowledge to fall back on. Hopefully, she plans to get a job in saies or marketing after graduation. But ior now, singing is a nice extension. r h... Carthage Student Life '3' 77'? As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietiy and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. 'Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. It you compare yourself with others you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. tKeep interested in your own career, however humble: it is a real possession in the changing fortunes at time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals and everywhere life is full 0! heroism. ' 'Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridi- ty and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. , tTake kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imagin- ings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline be gentle with yourself. i'You are a child of. the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. 1'Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. ,'With all its shame, drudgery and broken dreams. it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive. to be happy. Max Ehrmann 1B1 2113? I would like to begin by thanking everyone who has helped me in the last eight months with the production of this book. Secondly. I would like to thank those who had the patience with me during my frustrating and irritable times. I am sorry for the names missing from the pictures, but I was unable to obtain those names before school was let out. I also want to apologize to the stafffprofessors for all of their pictures not being in the book. During the process of moving out of school. pictures were lost and inconvenience we may have put you through. One picture was omitted due to the lack of courtesy on the part of a fraternity. An obscene gesture was displayed and therefore unable to be printed. I would like to mention that these pictures are taken and developed by students and there may be some flaws, but I did my best to select the best pictures. With the chaos that was left to me and the short amount of time to complete the book, I have tried my best. I have put in tremendous energy and hundreds of hours. I hope each and every one of you are satisfied with my work. Thank You! 192 I'm sorry for all the ncerelyu 27.11.1222, 5 I .153 53 I26 '6 114.161 aa153 0 2 33 ; 130 56 3' I61 126. 133.
