On November 16, 1983, the students at Carthage College pulled their artistic resources and created a magnificent presentation as an extended offering. The offering was of music, readings, drama, and dance which spiritually lifted all of the members in the audience. The acts ranged from 3010 performers to fairly large groups. Each segment inter- preted the teachings, writings, or ways of Jesus. It was well performed and well worth the hour of time passed watching in Siebert Chapel. 412:. . Prodigal Son feeds the pigs. Severai choir members came out from the risers and took lit candles out to the audience. Beginning with the lower levels, the lit candles were passed so that au- dience members could light theirs. Overall. the team showed a lot of im- provement with numerous records broken. Special honors went to Glynis Payne as she qualified for nationals. Not only did her 5 8 high jump qualify her over old 5'6 record. In addition. Glynis took first place in the Chicago over Metro Conference. Team Pfayum: Jay Ansari, Bill Chase, Paul Copps. Bruce Davis. Jim Finche Mark Jones. Andy Logemann. Mark Maegaarde Pal Moore. Gary Mundt. Mike Okanga. Chris Orbcson, Kevin Parker, Pctcr Rem. Jim Router. Oiuwolc Shaban- jo. Phil Smilh, George Titlclt. and l,inares Vicente. Along with the new uniforms. new equipment. and a new coach, the Carthage soccer team held a newly founded motivation for a successful season. Accordingly. Coach John Bocwimski reports. nthe team members took their games seriously this season and worked very hard for e t Their 3:11:3 record was an improvement over last yearhs record. The Carthage Redmen. with its seventeen members, placed second at the conference. Special hcmors went to Jim Renter. Bill Chase and Mark Maegaard as they were voted to All Conference. In addition, Jim Renter was voted Captain and Most Valuable Player while Bill received the highest goal score in the conference. iv LL: t t' u h - Him: eidiir 14? Menas Swimming . J 1- wssm , 4. ,. While Carthage took seccmd, the team swam competitively. making its opponents work hard for their win. Records were broken during the season as Greg Creuziger completed the 100 fly in 55.23 seconds and the 200 fly in 210.69 seconds. As a relatively young team. the Carthage women's swim team saw much improvement as the season progressed. The addition of six freshmen contributed to the newness of the team. Freshman. Eloise Ncstlcr, broke three records dur- ing the season: the 500 free at 5:52.24; the 1000 free at 110958; and the 1650 free at 2020035. Upon graduation, the swim team will regretfully lose its senior member. Jill Brehm. Special honors went to Jill Brchrn as Captain and Most Valuable Player and to Kathy Bcckmann as Most Improved Player. Team Mayan: Chris Murphy Dan Rigg5 Pclc Schumachcr. Andy Wangcrim Dan chzcl, and Paul chzcl. Perseverance and courage were shown by Carthage Collegelc; wrestiing team. Although the team began its season with six players, only three players: Pele Schumachcr. Dan chzcl, and Paul chzel, lasted through the season. Because the wrestling team was not a full team, a majority of weight positicms were fortified during the matches. Consequently, the players worked as individuals, not as a team. The wrestling team played twcnly-onc matches and four tournaments during their season. Special honors went to Paul Wenzel as Most Valuable Player and Captain and to Dan Wenzel for receiving the most team points. 150 .--.....-. .. ., . . r -- ;-3-.---a-. u... .. --;-:: ' :ZE'1::-: .1- R 5-. , Qualt. 1r-1'-r . . .--.-'- 1- - -- - - ... . 19-..1.-., ri. by and Golf LK-r Team Piayvrs: David melic, Curt Bradshaw, Jim Brnuksjcon Dcni1.5mvc Fuller. Schultz - Editor Matthew D. Cline 7 Asst. Editor Alanc Bolten 7 Adviser Kenneth Brauer e Taylor Rep. l'lmagine individuals not as people but as suitcases, compact beings in a transit society; spending their lifetime packing into themselves facts, knowledge, experiences; taking time to plan today for the trips they will make tomorrow. In the mind of a suitcase a possible destination is set; semewhere to go, something to plan for, someday a dream to come true. They place a label on themselves to get them where they want to go. Their goal set, their destination finalized, they begin. However, memories remain. Looking back, the faces of favorite professors come into focus again. They were the ones that could be tricked into postponing a test, those who gave us a little inspiration, those who understood the problems we faced. Very dimly we recall the ones that put us to sleep. The graduating class, as well as the undergraduates who leave us to pursue other goals, are scattered in all directions. So many more friends will be lost over the years, in com- parison. to the few that will remain. But they will all be remembered as invaluable parts of college memories. Anonymous
