EDITOR'S NUTE A very important property ofa book is being harmo- nious from beginning to end. The most useful thread to tie various sections of a yearbook is its theme. This is a devicefvisual, verbal, and psychological-that defines the point of view or the common reference to which all parts of the yearbook are directed. The editors and my- self found that choosing a theme is not an easy task. After much deliberation, we decided that FATE would be the theme of the 1971 Carthadian. Fate could be de- fined as the power supposed to fix beforehand and con- trol everything that happens. To some people, this means absolutely nothing.
