V V THE CARTHADIAN CARTHAGE CENTRAL JUNIOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CARTHAGE, NEW YORK A VOLUME XII EDITOR'S NOTES The traditional responsibility of the Carthadian has been to present the year's notable events and personalities. ln 1969 we have an additional goal: We hope to present the school as an institution with a unique character. This is not done by merely compiling a record of the superficial aspects of Carthage Central. lt can be accomplished only by our exploring the moods of this school - the theme we have chosen. In pictures and with words we have tried to recreate the atmosphere of the school. We have tried to capture the intangible and everchanging moods of our school. lt is these moods that give individuality to this institution. We hope our efforts will leave a more vivid impression for seniors, and even more importantly, will help underclassmen to better understand their school. VARSITY FOOTBALL The Comets rallied to end their season with two upset victories as they finished with a 2-5-1 mark. Coach Ron Miller and team exhibited sheer determination with a well earned victory over their arch rival, Lowville. A stiff de- fense accounted for the final win over Canastota. Dave Trembley and Wayne Ferguson were key per- formers on offense, while the defensive unit was led by Rich Rollins and Mike Flynn. T i ::ts,t 1 YalmQ?s sX12m Coach Richard Rollins' varsity cagers finished the sea- son with a 5-13 record. A schedule pitting them against some of the foremost teams in this section and the inabil- ity to win a number of close games hindered the squad. Senior standouts, Russ Getman and Fred Goutremout will be lost. However, Dewey Mosher, Terry Simmons, and Tony Dumaw will be back again next year. The J.V. Comets directed by Coach Jerry Metcalf enjoyed a highly successful season ending up with a 14-4 record. They were paced by Rich Rollins, Mike Peluso, John Myers, Ace Yuhas, and freshman Dale Dalton. This group should insure brighter years for Carthage cage for- tunes in the future. The Freshmen coached by Mr. James Cavellier com- pleted a winning season at 9-5. The Jayvees paced by Lee Wright and Mike Hancock also finished at 2-10. Both teams were plagued by a lack of manpower, and before a strong squad can be assembled there will have to be an increased interest in the sport.
