travel both , Fhwz nssfkf Wil.i?:?s5bii J, EE TI-IE 1967 CARTHADIAN CARTHAGE CENTRAL JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CARTHAGE, NEW YORK VOL. X THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Two roads diverged in a yellow wood And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowthg Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear, Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the dzfference. -ROBERT FROST I L T 17 , ,, , 6 A, . v I CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION . PATRONS 8: SPONSORS EDITOR'S NOTE Robert Frost's poem The Road Not Taken sets the stage for the theme of the 1967 Carthadian, roads. Our school building is the yellow wood backdrop approached by a single road called Martin Street. By that unified lane the players of the drama arrive. They are the students who emerge from their buses, converge into their respective groups of friends, and then di- verge onto their separate paths-paths of academic endeavors, or- ganizational prowesses, artistic efforts, and athletic achievements. Some choose less trodden trails, others well-worn highways. The 1967 Carthadian has attempted to pictorally record for un- derclassmen views down several of these roads and for the well- traveled seniors scenic souvenirs of places visited. For them their choice of roads has made all the difference. 6 8 .. 18 .. 26 .. 46 .. 49 .. 53 .. 56 .. 69 .. 96 .. 98 .. 104 3 4928 if W 'J--PM Wi To the Carthadian, What is it worth? the pessimist may ask me. Isn't it just a way of spending time and money, a vacation, a sightseeing trip in a foreign country? Is it for better understanding? Peace? Why, you know mankind has never been grown up enough to govern itself in peace. Man might be the most perfect creature on the earth, but he is still hating and lighting, as he was doing thousands of years ago. Man will never change. His road has already been made for him and he will always have to follow it. Maybe you are right in your prophecies. Surely noth- ing proves that you are wrong. Being a small part of the big wheel called American Field Service, I hope that you one day will be wrong. I hope that the ex- changing of young people and young ideas will lead to better relationships between the countries. I believe that the day everybody has a second home somewhere on the earth, man's road will change . . . Carthage became my second home. I will always remember that. -Asle Rolland ADMINISTRATION FACULTY BOARD OF EDUCATION Row one: Mr. Wilfred J. Rushman, Mrs. Malcolm Bears, Mr. Lawrence W. Lyman, Mr. Lee Hirschey, Mr. Donald Gladle.
