A MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR - In December of 1958 the construction of the new Carthage Central Junior-Senior High School was com- pleted-a dynamic structure. But the architectural beauty of the building only exemplifies the greatness of the STAFF Editor Paul Petrie educational structure therein. Literary Editor Susan Lehman Builders construct buildings to be useful, and erect Assistants Sheryl Haberman them solid and firm. This is also the aim of the educators Senior Page Editor Assistant Art and Layout Editor Assistants Sports Editor Business Manager Typing Editors Assistants Advisors Elizabeth Hervey Mary Margaret Russell Carol Rogers Peter Patterson Susan Moran Kathleen Morris George Blondin Ann Marie Coughlin Judy Hongo Mary J o J amba Linda Gardner Judy Scee Loretta Montigelli Karen Ward Mr. Joseph Maslanik Mr. Everett Carlson Mr. Thomas Habib Mrs. Allan Richardson Mrs. Robert Waters in developing the student. Education's aim is to produce useful members of society benefitting not only them- selves but their community, their country, and their God. It strives to make them firm, able to face and conquer the problems which will encompass them in their lives. Just as the mason lays brick upon brick to build an edifice, our teachers develop the minds of our young people 'Lbrick by brickj' so they may grow to become intelligent, effective adults. But just as fine buildings need good builders, a fine education needs good educators. The educational structure is far more important than the physical structure. The intangible attributes are of much more value than the tangible, for they affect our characters and our minds. These are what we will carry with us through our lives. We should realize this, and if we are to benefit from them, We must make the fullest use possible of all the opportunities offered in our school, intangible as Well as tangible. This date will be always remembered as the beginning of the most wonderful, the most unforgettable, the most exciting, and the happiest year of my life. Going back further in the yellowing pages of this diary, I cannot find in any other periods of my brief existence a single mention of as much happiness and pleasure as the present ones. The undeniable amiability bestowed upon me by the teachers, by the officers, and by the students of this school, is for me an expressive and clear exam- ple of American friendliness and good will. Though I have traveled almost all around the world-from the far East to the West, from the South to the North-it was only here, in the community of Carthage, that I found the most precious thing on earth. It is not made of gold, it is not made of clay, but it is made of human sentiments. It is what I call real friendship. The dearest portion of my heart is dedicated to all the friends I have made during my short stay here. Soon, I will have to depart, leaving behind this beloved town of Carthage. Too many fragments of my heart have I scattered this year, and too many are the enchanted memories that I collected forever. I cannot with- draw from them without a burden and an ache. Good-bye, my friends . . . Forget not that I shall come back to you. ma ofa. Facing page SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS: Sealed: Mrs. Henry Gilbert, Mr. Thomas Gibbons, Matthew Fletcher fpresidentj. CLARION Once a month it is the aim of the Clarion stalf to produce a school newspaper that brings to the student's attention all school activities. School news, events, original writings, interviews, and features provide entertainment and enjoyment for all. All students interested in literary work are eligible for membership. Mr. John Butler, Mrs. Orville Munger, and Miss Rosemarie Gnall supervise the production of this monthly journal. It takes an efficient, well-informed group to keep the library at Carthage Central School in order. This is the job of the Library Club, headed by Carol Boni. The other othcers, Bonnie Flitcroft, Jackie Conley, and Sue Brennan, serve a co-ordinated organization which strives to promote interest in books and reading among the student body. In the League Tournament in which the team was fifth, winners, Gary Burke, Ralph Harvey, Richard Bent, Bill Nier, and Bob Reviere were their place winners. Gary Burke won the Outstanding Wrestler Award for the tournament. WRESTLING TEAM Although the final record was one win, 8 loses, and one tie, it is no evidence of the way the boys wrestled. Because of the lack of wres- tlers in the lower weight classes 15 to 20 points had to be forfeited before every match. The JV's had two excel- lent wrestlers in Ralph Per- rigo and Andy Lowe. JR. Its ollicers, Evelyn Pierce, Dennis Clark, and Jacqueline Joy Landry, with the help of their advisor, Mr. Everett Carlson, find fun and knowledge in working with such a group. 77 To improve personal, family, and community living is the object of the Future Homemakers. Besides increasing their cooking skills at each bi-monthly meeting, these girls enjoy helping others by making tray favors for various organizations.
