After a loss to Indian River the Comets came back in the fourth quarter to tie Camden. Then the team succumbed to a powerful Oswego attack. The record of this earis J.V. football team was no indication as to the brand of ball played. Although the team had Y a 1-1-4 record, they displayed plenty of spirit. ln most games, in fact, the Carthage boys gained more first downs and more yards than their opponents, but they lacked a scoring punch In two of the games they lost by only one touchdown. Against d Watertown, which was undefeated and unscored upon, they.moved to the one yard line. Defensively they hit hard, an most teams that they played knew it had been a rough game. From the point of defense and team spirit the season was a success. The Cross Country team headed by Coach Western had its most successful season in a number of years. They defeated all opponents but one, at least once. Their success can be attributed to a fine competi- tive spirit and hard work. They demonstrated excellent teamwork with the brunt of the board work carried by lanky Bob Wagoner and team captain, Jim Burns. Outstanding defensive play marked the squad's performance throughout the season. Big Bob Wagoner was the Comet's chief offensive threat. However, fine jump shooting by Jim Burns, and the rapid improvement of Maurice Dalton contributed much to the success of the season. The set shooting of John Nindl and .lohn Intorcia along with their fast break scoring rounded out a team which provided exciting evenings. Coach Vetter may look forward to a rebuilding task next season since Dave Richardson, Bill Brown, Tom Vande Water and Les Allen were lost through graduation. The Comet swim team has participated in meets with four other schools this year. Coach Tom Habib's mermen lacking depth and experience have had a successful season against much larger schools considering their handicaps. The Comets have shown real strength in the relay and freestyle events. Coach Habib's squad has too few members to make an extremely strong combination. The Comets have swum against Baldwinsville, Rome, New Hartford and Lowville this year.
