'nnffg f ' 'people of this district voted for a modern adequate school we students 'Q s '13 if ' into such a building. We are no longer compelled to rooms, or walk in ha s When the wg ,gui .p lf' f MR. WILFRED RUSHMAN Supervising Principal administration MR. LOUIS HERVEY Junior-Senior High School Principal Our student-selected Carlhadian theme- Great to Greater -may at first seem only to be a play on words. However, when one thinks back into the school history of the various communities which have merged to make up the Carthage Central School District and then returns to the present, having full knowledge of our new and modern facilities which will present the means whereby all children will be offered equal educational opportunities. then we know that our Senior Class has chosen wisely its theme. Nothing can detract from the luster of the schools of the past. Graduates of these institutions have for many years MR. JAMES KEMP provided us with our foremost citizens. Theirs was a job Junior-Senior High School Vice Principal which was done with 'ggreati' success. Theirs, though. was a mission which had markedly different objectives of education from those of today. With changing trends brought about by a world cloaked in suspicion and distrust and with a philosophy of 'csurvival of the fittestw being paramount. we will be able to supplement advantageously the three basic R,s', with challenging courses for the students who are capable of becoming our leaders of the futureg for the students whose formal learning will terminate upon graduation. it is to be hoped that a career fitted to their potential will be forthcomingg and for the drop-outi' of the past whose interests were never aroused. it is our aim that his counterpart of today will be in- spired enough to work to the best of his ability. Good teaching, sound leadership. continued public support. and careful curriculum experimentation added to the finest of educational facilities laces the '4 reateri' oal within ran e of attainment. The name for our paper was selected from many submitted in connection with a contest held specifically for this purpose. Miss Crump and Nlrs. Moseley. our advisors. decided upon The Carthage Clarion, entered by Robert Cox. as our official by-line. Our first issue. although a success. lacked many of the features presented in our second publication. Some of the new ideas introduced in the December issue were a crossword puzzle. an opinion poll. a record survey and two feature stories on Christmas. With the opening of our new school. it was necessary to incorporate the seventh and eighth grades into our news coverageg and we hope by the pooling of ideas to put out a publication with new and unique features. It also sponsors dances and other social activities. The first president of the Commercial Club in 1954 was Patricia Noyes. She was succeeded by Betty Hellinger. who was president in both her junior and senior years. Since its founding, the Commercial Club has become a very worth-while organization which has rendered service to both the community and school.
