HI TURY 1951 54 WEST CARTHAGE we the class of 55 entered our freshman year full of hope asprrauon and determtnatron We thought htgh school l1fe was excmng but many of us were undecrded about our future Our class was well represented rn such school acuvmes as band chorus basketball bowhng cheerleadtng and mtramurals The followtng September we became sophomores We had a better understandmg of hrgh school and felt a httle more lmportant The boys starred ID basketball and baseball and the grrls were more actrve III lntramural sports We stud1ed and worked very hard and before we knew 1t, our Jumor year was upon us Tlus was an eventful year both good and bad The great est thrtll was reoervmg our class rmgs Our class had a square dance wh1ch gave us funds for our treasury Wxth the money we had a Jumor p1cn1c at Wescott s Beach To the boys th1s year meant playrng on the varstty basketball team On Apr1l29 at four o'clock m the mormng a terrrble catastrophe happened to our West Carthage School We shall never forget th1s f1re wh1ch broke out 1n the old part ofthe bu1ld1ng Lucktly school was not 1n sessron so there were no tragedles Frremen brought the f1re under control and watched lt contrnually for two days and nrghts unul the last spark had dtmmrshed 1951 54 CARTHAGE As freshmen wtth enthuslasm we part rcrpated rn sports clubs and other act1v1t1es of our school Under the supervrston of the sc1ence teacher several students entered projects rn the Scrence Farr of the North Central Zone of New York State Scrence Teachers Assoc1at1on Projects contrnued to be en tered throughout the Jtuuor and sen1or years also Our sophomore year was orgamzed under the leadershrp of able class off1cers Our 1nterest 1n school affarrs doubled wh1ch paved a successful start toward our adven turous Juntor and sen1or years Under the f1ne leadershrp of our class advtsor M1ss Taylor our Jumor class took form by Ofgafllzlflg class offrcers A few dances and the Juntor prom wh1ch was called the June Fesuval enabled us to put some money 1n our treasury Our ,Tumor Prom was the most successful formal dance held 1n Carthage 1n some hme 1954 1955 CARTHAGE CENTRAL Because of the frre the semors, as well as the other hrgh school classes from both West Carthage Htgh School and Carthage I-hgh School were jotned m the fall of 1954 For th1s reason our class rs the largest ever to be graduated 1n the Carthage Hxgh School bu1ld1ng As semors we looked forward toward a most xnterestmg year under the 1eadersh1p of our advtsors and class offroers The fxrst step wh1ch developed tn our sen1or year was the dramatlc productlon of State Fa1r, wh1ch was well rece1ved by an enthustasuc audtence The sen1or Sno Ball was a success wrth more than f1fty couples attendrng The theme of our ball was a wrnter scene wlth muslc prov1ded by Harry Sp1oer's orchestra Our senxor trrp took place February 21 at Lake Placld New York where the semors enjoyed the expert Olymp1c sk1ers and the supertor skaung tn the Olymplc Arena Our football team played spectacular football under Coach F lanlgan It was the fxrst year our West Carthage boys had played ll man football The team won srx of tts 7 games and was presented wrth the class AB Champronshxp Trophy for the Watertown area of Sectlon III These highlights have made four eventfuland unforgettable years We are glad that we are f1I'llSh1IlQ our four years of hrgh school yet ll would have been a great thrrll to graduate from the new centralrzed school wluch xs yet to be butlt . . . - I I I I n a , , o Q , I I I Y I I 1 - c , o ' Q I ' . . . , . . j 0 - 1 G 1 . - . . . . , . . . .
