Lezzefspeezfeer The word renaissance', is a term derived from the French renaitre, meaning to be born againn. Within the pages of the yearbook of 1974, this Renaissance takes on an extended, contemporary connotation. The Renaissance of today is captured in the expressions of the Class of 1974 as the vitality and eager determination of an entire generation born to a new, modern age of enlightenment. One goal of this enlightened age is the fulfillment of the human mind: the full development of both mental and spiritual faculties in the individual. It is the goal, then, of this yearbook to illustrate this same development in the students of Carteret High. No longer sheltered by the confines of a close-knit peer group, the individual graduate is now free to incorporate his own new philosophies into the world around him. Through the emphasis of the unique world of new opportunity that faces the young it is hoped that their youthful qualities and hopes may not be abandoned at the threshold of maturity, but rather be brought to fruition with the passing years. It is in the preservation of the idealism and vigor of our youth that we, as a generation, may find the courage and fortitude to develop a new and better world of the future. 4 Julie Jacobs s i f wi 4 Y We learn to think differently every day of our lives. Whether we travel after graduation, enter a vocation, or expand our knowledge, we hope to awake one morning with a new depth and understanding unlike anyone else in the world. In essence, we will be re-born. Our sense of awareness will become extremely acute. And as the youth of America, it is our responsibility to bring about certain changes within our society. Then will the youth support their true ideas and goals - the goals of being a knowledgeable and interested generation. Graduation does not end the last chapter of our lives. New novels shall be written. We must allow our dreams to survive and make them a reality because we must shape our own futures and determine what is best for ourselves. We are our hope. Intelligent and mature individuals, we can break out of the mold, change from within, and use the change to our advantage. Jean King Eefzfers' Nefe Cezrferef High Seeeef Cezrferezi s ere Jersey
