Berry. n Vocal Music Department Carter High School Vocal Music Department has had a busy year. Their first work was preparing a Junior High group of thirty singers for an E,T,E,A, Chorus. The Winter Concert followed and served as a dedication ceremony for forty new academic choir robes. Procuring these robes was a big step forward for this department. These robes were purchased with money obtained from Christmas Cards and concerts. At Easter the Senior Choir did a Cantata, From Death Unto Life, by Stults. Carter music students entered three festivals in the spring. Spring Concert, Baccalaureate, and Commencement Music completed the year. The society is composed of troupes in every state in the U.S. , The District of Columbia, Canada, and a number of foreign countries and was organized for the purpose of raising standards of the Dramatic Arts in secondary schools. Irs first aim is to create an active intelligent interest in dramatics. Second, it aims to develop an appreciation of good theatre, movies, radio and television. Any boy or girl who makes an A Grade in science for a six weeks period may make application for membership, To remain a member of the club the student must maintain at least an average grade of B in science. Pascal Carter Memorial Park The first membership meeting of the Pascal Carter Memorial Park association met at I-lelma's Res- taurant on January 19, 1959. The following officers were elected: President, Charles W. Cliftg Presi- dent-Elect, Dr, Edward Ellis, Vice President, I. Thomas Baileyg Treasurer, Bob White, Secretary, Mrs. Dona Farmer. A fifteen member board of directors was elected. The constitution and by-laws were adopted, committees appointed, and plans made for our first community park. Tentative plans for the park include a general picnic area, a swimming pool, playground, museum, a pioneer cabin, outdoor theater, and a community center building with facilities for club meeting, banquets, parties, and a library. ACTIVI TIES i' We arrive, A Dayvat Carter A day at Carter begins when the first bus arrives at 7:30 a, m. and is very closely fol- lowed by seven other busses. There is much activity before the 8:15 bell rings, Students are busy seeking out their friends for social conversation or comparison of lesson prepa- rations. Teachers are busy preparing for a full day's work. At Carter the students are taught much subject matter, but the teaching of citizen- ship, loyalty, patriotism and teamwork are stressed by each and every faculty member.
