HI-LITES EAST-CARTER COUNTY HIGH Ellsinore, Missouri Janice McDowell Donna Kingen, Co-Editors DEDICATION The class of 1965 would like to dedicate this year book to a person who seems to typify the spirit that we associate with our school. She is always ready with sympathy and understanding; she has used unmeasured energy to be helpful to us the past four years. Patience, friendliness, sympathy, and understanding. To Mrs. Eva Cates, school secretary, we respectfully dedicate this book. 3 ADMINISTRATION L. W. KINGEN M.Ed. Arkansas State College BSE Southeast Mo. PRESIDENT ROY ROBERTSON PAULA KNIGHT TREASURER SECRETARY LORENE TERRY REPORTER SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS HISTOR Y OF CLASS OF 1965 The senior class of 1965 were a scattered group on that Monday morning of August 31, 1953. Three of our class of 41 members began their journey 12 years ago at Grandin. Miss Hoopes started them on their way. At the same time, 12 of our group were enrolling in Mrs. Westbrook's first grade room at Ellsinore. One member enrolled at Hunter on that day with Mrs. Tincher, and one started at Halloran. In 1955, in the third grade, 5 more came from various places to join us. In 1956, we were in the fourth grade and had two more newcomers. The year 1957, our fifth grade year, saw 3 new members. We had only one person to join our group in 1959. Along with our 1960-61 year came reorganization. The Hunter, Grandin, and Ellsinore students all became members of the same school district. This year brought many things to add to our chain of memories. There were exciting sports activities, bus trips, and above all new friendships. We were allowed our own graduation exercises at the end of this year which brought to a close the end of our eight years of elementary education. We were now ready for high school. In 1961 there were 68 of us entering high school. We had 5 new additions to our class from other places. These 43 boys and 25 girls were the green freshmen. 1962 brought us 4 more students. Our class membership totaled 71, with 47 boys and 24 girls. We had now become the ’’silly sophomores and were over most of our fears of being in high school. Fifty five students entered our junior year of 1963. The jolly juniors only had one more year to go. 1964 found us with a smaller number than the previous years. Several of our class members have gone to various other places and left for various reasons. There are 41 of the ?£?inaiugroup who have progressed through high school together who will graduate May 21, 1965. This includes 26 boys and 15 girls who will go into the world as the Class of 1965. 14 RUBY FAYE ANDREWS Daughter of Mrs. Genevieve Andrews I wul my big mouth to Jo Ellen Boyer.
