Class Prophecy YEAR 1950 The year 1958 I, John Morris, am now a reporter for the Chicago Times Newspaper and what just happened to me the other day was music to my ears. I was assigned to cover a story on what can happen to your best friends in eight years. I was to get a small story of each member of my graduating class of 1950. So off I went to good old Ellsinore to get the names of the Seniors and where they might be located. Walking into the office of old Ellsinore High School building whom should I meet but Donald Lee Alcorn. Donald L.ee is teaching school at Ellsinore High and he is also basketball coach. He is now happily mar- ried. I got the names of the class and went in search of their parents who lived around Ellsinore to get an idea where they were. I learned that Delmar Carter was in Kansas and on visiting him I found that he owned a big farm. Delmar didn't go to college. He didn t have to, he got a wife without going. My next student to look up was Marjorie Cassity. Yes, Marjorie married Ron like I thought she would Marj and Ron haven t got time to sit around and talk to each other any more. Vernon Mansfield is manager of a Steel Mill in Ellsinore now. He is not married yet, he seems to be the playboy type. Bobby Joe Robertson is living in Ellington now. He is engineer over the Ellington Dam. Bobby is married to Rajeane. His oldest boy, Jr., has been giving him a little trouble lately. Seems he wants to take a girl to the show every night. Well, I guess he is just a chip off the old block. Bill Gaines is the next name on my list. He now lives in Springfield, Missouri. He is a psychiatrist now. I had him to examine my head while I was there. He said he couldn’l see a thing. Bill's motto is, “To be a prosperous doctor you must be patient. Shirley Snider is a secretary in an Insurance Company. Shirley is now married but has an eye on her good-looking boss. He told her that he would give her more money if she could type or take shorthand. I am in New York now to look into the lives of Wendell Carnahan and Gayler Evans. Wendell is a private detective now. They say he is just another Sam Spade. Gayler is making good, singing on CBS. But t found that he plays the races pretty heavy and has been losing lately. Naomi Hassell is next to be interviewed. She now lives in Detroit, Michigan. She is married to a well-known man from Ellsinore, Mr. Boyer. She went with him six years. Naomi was always the kind of girl who made no spur-of-the-moment decisions. 13

My next stop was at Chicago. Ilene Dalton lives there. She is a private nurse now. Ilene always was more or less a man-hater and now she is even more so. She’s married to one. I found that Anna Lee Long was a traveling saleslady. She is now in St. Louis. She seems to be very happy at her job. Anna Lee isn’t married, she never stays in one place long enough for the ceremony. Joyce Kelley is a beauty operator here in St. Louis. Joyce is not married, but she does have quite a few admirers. I tried to get a date with her but she was booked up for two weeks. Beverly Black lives in Long Beach, California. Beverly is an artist and a good one. She is not married yet. Seems they all look so good she can’t pick one out. Zelma Jameson lives in Austin, Texas. She married a cowboy. She always did love to see Gene Autrey in the movies. Lucille Ballard is a housewife now. She finally settled down. Annie Eddington lives in Poplar Bluff. Annie still wears her smile even though she is married and has triplets. Nina Crowley works for the Missouri Pacific Railroad at the Ellsinore Branch Office. She said that the Missouri Pacific took the “Mule Train’s’’ place. Jean Boyer is the Ellsinore Public Service’s head bookkeeper. Jean seems to think women will someday take over the business world. Well, there in a nut shell is the story I wrote for the boss. But if any character found in this story has any resemblance to persons living or dead it is purely coincidental. Who’s Who in The Senior Class Athlete................ Friendliest............
