They have helped put forth the effort which made the publication of this annual possible. They will maintain a place forever remembered in our high school memoirs. 3 School Song Mid the hiils of South Missouri, Filled with magic lore, Stands the school we’ll always cherish Fairest Ellsinore. I was assigned to cover a story on what can happen to your best friends in eight years. I was to get a small story of each member of my graduating class of 1950. So off I went to good old Ellsinore to get the names of the Seniors and where they might be located. Walking into the office of old Ellsinore High School building whom should I meet but Donald Lee Alcorn. Donald L.ee is teaching school at Ellsinore High and he is also basketball coach. He is now happily mar- ried. I got the names of the class and went in search of their parents who lived around Ellsinore to get an idea where they were. I learned that Delmar Carter was in Kansas and on visiting him I found that he owned a big farm. Delmar didn't go to college. He didn t have to, he got a wife without going. My next student to look up was Marjorie Cassity. Yes, Marjorie married Ron like I thought she would Marj and Ron haven t got time to sit around and talk to each other any more. Vernon Mansfield is manager of a Steel Mill in Ellsinore now. He is not married yet, he seems to be the playboy type. Bobby Joe Robertson is living in Ellington now. He is engineer over the Ellington Dam. Bobby is married to Rajeane. His oldest boy, Jr., has been giving him a little trouble lately. Seems he wants to take a girl to the show every night. Well, I guess he is just a chip off the old block. Bill Gaines is the next name on my list. He now lives in Springfield, Missouri. He is a psychiatrist now. I had him to examine my head while I was there. He said he couldn’l see a thing. Bill's motto is, “To be a prosperous doctor you must be patient. Shirley Snider is a secretary in an Insurance Company. Shirley is now married but has an eye on her good-looking boss. He told her that he would give her more money if she could type or take shorthand. I am in New York now to look into the lives of Wendell Carnahan and Gayler Evans. Wendell is a private detective now. They say he is just another Sam Spade. Gayler is making good, singing on CBS. But t found that he plays the races pretty heavy and has been losing lately. Naomi Hassell is next to be interviewed. She now lives in Detroit, Michigan. She is married to a well-known man from Ellsinore, Mr. Boyer. She went with him six years. Naomi was always the kind of girl who made no spur-of-the-moment decisions. 13 My next stop was at Chicago. Ilene Dalton lives there. She is a private nurse now. Ilene always was more or less a man-hater and now she is even more so. She’s married to one. I found that Anna Lee Long was a traveling saleslady. She is now in St. Louis. She seems to be very happy at her job. Anna Lee isn’t married, she never stays in one place long enough for the ceremony. Joyce Kelley is a beauty operator here in St. Louis. Joyce is not married, but she does have quite a few admirers. I tried to get a date with her but she was booked up for two weeks. Beverly Black lives in Long Beach, California. Beverly is an artist and a good one. She is not married yet. Seems they all look so good she can’t pick one out. Zelma Jameson lives in Austin, Texas. She married a cowboy. She always did love to see Gene Autrey in the movies. Lucille Ballard is a housewife now. She finally settled down. Annie Eddington lives in Poplar Bluff. Annie still wears her smile even though she is married and has triplets. Nina Crowley works for the Missouri Pacific Railroad at the Ellsinore Branch Office. She said that the Missouri Pacific took the “Mule Train’s’’ place. Jean Boyer is the Ellsinore Public Service’s head bookkeeper. Jean seems to think women will someday take over the business world. Well, there in a nut shell is the story I wrote for the boss. But if any character found in this story has any resemblance to persons living or dead it is purely coincidental. The “A” Team has won fifteen games and lost only five. The “B” Team has won eleven and lost two. Both teams have had very strong competition. On December 12, the Ellsinore Red Birds were invited to the 19th Annual Invitational Tournament held at Birch Tree. The Red Birds played Thomasville the first game. Thomasville was a very strong team, but we defeated them by a small margin. Our next game was with Birch Tree. They defeated us by a small margin, although Thomasville had beaten them prior to this tournament. Then we went up Saturday night to play for third or fourth place. We defeated Mt. View, a very fast team, and came home with a nice big third place trophy. It was the first time in.history that the Ellsinore Red Birds have come back from the Birch Tree Tournament with a trophy. “A” Team Scores ELLSINORE 53 Fremont 16 Ellsinore 38 EMINENCE 43 ELLSINORE 25 Eminence 24 ELLSINORE 52 Naylor 30 ELLSINORE 44 Van Buren 43 ELLSINORE 43 Patterson 14 Ellsinore 24 Doniphan 46 ELLSINORE 41 Brosely 40 ELLSINORE 41 W illiamsville 22 ELLSINORE 39 Thomasville 33 ELLSINORE 38 Grandin 25 Ellsinore 33 PIEDMONT 36 ELLSINORE 33 Naylor 28 ELLSINORE 54 Patterson 18 Ellsinore 29 PIEDMONT 37 ELLSINORE 42 Fremont 25 ELLSINORE 44 Grandin 14 ELLSINORE 50 Mt. Under the direction of Fair Board Chairman, John Bolen, the 1949 fair turned out to be a great success. To him and the other board officers and members, much credit is due and given. There were many outstanding events, however, we can only recall a few of them. On Friday, September 30 at 11:00 A. M. the parade marched through Van Buren’s main street. Ellsinore High School won high praise for a nicely assembled float and took first prize in the running. Many events followed on that day, including the Sadie Hawkins Day Race, 4-H Club judging, and sheep and dog judging. At 7:30 P. M. on the first day, the quiz show and judging of the Queen were held in the high school auditorium. Miss Marjorie Cassity was selected out of seventeen other young ladies in Carter County, for the honor of Harvest Queen. She was from Ellsinore High School as were two other candidates, Miss Bonnie Myrick and Miss Shirley Morris. The Ellsinore High School Vocational Agriculture Department under the direction of Elmer Probst and Travis Young, played a major part in the fair. The Ellsinore High School more or less dominated the fair with their winning of most of the honors. Class Events Coming over to events which took place here in the Ellsinore High School, the Sophomores held their class party first this year. Refreshments were served and games were played throughout the evening from 7:00 o’clock to 9:30 o'clock. Everyone apparently had a good time at the party which was under the supervision of the class adviser, Elmer Probst. Next came the Senior Class Party, held in the high school auditorium. Mr. Amberson was present and helped Mrs. Crites supervise the activities throughout the even- ing. We are certain that the 1949 Senior Party will not be forgotten. Following the Senior Party, the Junior Class held their party also in the auditorium. L. V'. Kingen, adviser for the Junior Class directed activities. An accident occurred during one of the games when Jerry Cooper and Audrey Moss collided. Outside of this one bad moment, everyone had a gay time. Oh yes’. We can’t forget the Freshmen and their party which took place last and summed up the 1949 class parties. Mr, Amberson directed and sup- ervised his Freshman group to an enjoyable evening. The “Frosh” had good cause to remember their party. The Junior Class Play is scheduled for a yet unknown date in March. 34 • SS CT- ' Ellsinore Chapter F. F. A. The Ellsinore Chapter of the National Organization, Future Farmers of America was formed last year. Already we have done many things to further the cause of achieving the national purpose. The chief aim is development of agricultural leadership, co-operation, and citizenship. Our motto: Learning to do, Doing to learn, Earning to live, Living to serve. Our colors are Corn Gold and National Blue. Our President’s station is beneath a likeness of the rising sun, token of a new area in agriculture. Our Reporter sits beneath the flag, emblem of national scope. The Treasurer sits beneath a picture of George Washington, an early American farmer who kept accurate farm accounts. The Secretary is stationed at an ear of corn which, being a nation-wide crop, de'notes the national scope of his correspondence. The Vice-President sits by a model plow, emblem of labor and soil tillage. Boys from communities such as Ellsinore have equal opportunities with all other farm boys in the United States and its possessions to hold na- tional offices or excell in national contests for high honors. Let us all strive for these honors in the name of Ellsinore. Wayne Tucker, Secretary, Ellsinore Chapter. 35 36 38 40 cz -futocjzafifi: F71V4llM;U!l| UUtofTtphxl A Bound kjr WAL8WOKTM BROTHER w, U. 8.
