2 Trivia! Struggling farmers face the prospect of deep cuts in federal aid Big-Sky Country Ablaze WORLD: The heartbreak of famine brings floods of relief to Ethiopia i DEDICATION We the seniors o-f 1985 wish to dedicate our annual to the community of Ekalaka. Throughout the four years that we have been enrolled in -'c'r -er County High School, the community has always shown its support of the activities that we have chosen to participate in. From athletics to academics, our class has always had the comfort of knowing that the people of Ekalaka were behind us 1007.. To show our appreciation for this support, we wish to dedicate the Centennial issue of the annual to the community of Ekalaka. SENIORS Graduation Day Today we’ll start a new life And we'll say our last goodbyes To all the friends we’ve grown to love With whom we've laughed and cried. Remembering the fun and laughter. The problems and the fears, And watching all our memories grow Throughout our high school years. The memories of the dances And the new friends that we've met, Vacations, teachers, talking And exams we'd rather forget. Ves, high school days are precious but brief, Where all your dreams come true; It is not the end, but the beginning Of a life we’ll start anew. Class Colors: Baby Blue and B1 ack 6 Senior Class History Unlike the classes before us, the class of ’85 entered the doors of CCHS with an air of arrogance. We elected Loralee Fix as president, Cammy Kellner as vice president, Melanie Emery as secretary, and Leslie Kerr as student council representative. We were somewhat blessed by having Mr. Don Schillinger and Mrs. Pat Vaskey to lead us through the next four years. The rest of the class consisted of Larry Brence, Gerald Hutchinson, Joyce Harkins, Vicki Jardee, Buddy LaBree, Mike Mittelstedter, Sandra Nies, Amy Pedersen, Darcy Rollins, Nancy Sainsbury, Lisa Stout, Rhoda Strait, Kathy Turbiville, Kenny Wagner, Ann Ward, and Ron Wolff. As we journeyed onward into our sophomore year, we gained Michael Speelmon who left at semester. During our sophomore year we decided to do a play. We wrote and produced Winner Takes All. This year Mr. Schillinger was replaced as class advisor by Mr. Curt Wilson, and Shane Mulkey decided to rejoin the Class of '85. That summer, Lisa Stout moved to Broadus. Our junior year brought many responsibilities. We were insistent upon putting on the best prom of CCHS. With the leadership of Amy Pedersen as president., Vicki Jardee as vice president, Loralee Fix and Larry Brence as secretary, and Cammy Kellner as student council represen- tative, we made this possible. The theme Tonight We Celebrate Our Love, pastel colors, and the band, Benny Puppet, made April 14th, 1984 a night to remember. At semester, we lost Joyce Harkins and Loralee Fix. Also during our junior year, we chose the class colors of baby blue and black. As big seniors and rulers of CCHS, we found that Loralee Fix had once again joined us, but Rhoda Strait had moved on. Wade Anderson and Nicole Andre were also new members. To our dismay, Loralee Fix, Kenny Wagner, and Nicole Andre left at the semester. However, Loralee did come back to graduate with us. Our class was very proud to be graduating from CCHS in the centennial year of Ekalaka. Shane Mulkey was our president, Ron Wolff was vice president, and Gerald Hutchinson was secretary. The graduating class of 19B5 consists of 18 excited young adults ready to meet the oncoming world. 8 14 1 Ron Wolff 2 Darcy Rollins 3 Gerald Hutchinson 4 Buddy LaBree 5 Me lame timer 6 Nancy SainsLury 7 Leslie Kerr Quade 8 Larry Brence 9 Sandra Nies 10 Vicki Jardee 11 Wade Anderson 12 Ann Ward 13 Cammy Kellner 14 Loraiee Fix 15 Shane Mu1 key 16 Amy Pedersen 17 Kathy Turbiville 16 17 Silliest; Darcy Rollins, Ron Wolff Most Hyper; Ann Ward, Ron Wolff Best Sense of Humor: Darcy Rollins, Buddy LaBree Prettiest Eyes: Kathy Turbiville, Gerald Hutchinson Best Personality: Leslie Quade, Gerald Hutchinson Teacher's Pet: Sandra Nies, Buddy LaBree Most Organized: Sandra Nibs, Mike Mittelstedter Class Clown: Darcy Rollins, Ron Wolff Craziest: Darcy Rollins, Ron Wolff Most School Spirit: Melanie Emery, Sh ne Mulkey Most Rowdy: Darcy Rollins, Ron Wolff Most Revolutionary Nancy -Sainsbury, Wade Anderson Best Dressed: Amy Pedersen, Gerald Hutchinson Most Athletic: Melanie Emery, Shane Mulkey Best Dancer: Amy Pedersen, Shane Mulkey Best Looking: Amy Pedersen, Gerald Hutchinson Best Body: Cammy Kellner, Berald Hutchinson Friendliest: Cammy Kellner, Gerald Hutchinson Smartest: Leslie Quade, Larry Brence Best Rear End: Amy Pedersen, Shane Mulkey Most Likely To Succeed Leslie Quade, Larry Brence Best Leader: Leslie Quade, Shane Mulkey Prettiest Hair Kathy Turbiville, Gerald Hutchinson Most Popular: Amy Pedersen, Gerald Hutchinson Most Outgoing: Vicki Jardee, Larry Brence Quietest: Loraiee Fix, Mike Mittelstedter 9 Wade Davis Anderson Football-4, FFA 4 Loral ee Ann Fi ; Melanie Jo Emery Band—1,2,3,4, Choir-1.2,3,4, Carterettes -1,2,3,4-president, C Club—2,3,4, Girls Basket- bal1-1,2,3,4, Track-1,2,3,4, Volleyball-4, FHA-1,2,3,4, Math Team-1,2, Speech Team-2, Student Counci 1-2,3,4, Broad caster-4, Annual Staff-4, Select Choir-2,3,4, Jazz Band- 1,3,4, Cheer 1eading-2,3 Larry Daniel Brence Choir-1,2,3, C Club-2,3,4, Boys Basketbal1-1,2,3,4, Track-1, Football-1,2,3,4, FFA-l,2,3,4, Math Team 1,2, 3,4, Academic Olympics-1,3,4, Student Counci 1-3,4, Broad caster-1, National Honor Society-3,4 Band-1,2,3, Choir-1,2,3, Carterettes-1,2,3,4, C Club-1,2,3,4, Girls Basketball-1,2,3, Track- 1,2, FHA 1,2-president,3, Math Team-1,2,3, Student Counci 1-1,2,3,4, National Honor Society-2, 3,4, Gi rls Select-1,2,3, Mixed Select- 1,2,3 Gerald Alan Hutchinson Band-4, Choir-1,2,3,4, C Club-3,4, Boys Basketball 1,3,4, FHA-4, FFA-l,2,3, Select Choir-1,2,3,4, State Music Festival-1,2,3,4 Vicki Lynn Jardee Band-1,2,3,4, Jazz Band-4, Choir-1, Carter ettes-1,2, 3, 4, C Club-2,3,4, Girls Basket- ball Manager-l,2,4, FHA-1,2, 3,4, Math Team 2, Speech Team-3,4, Student Council Secretary 4, Annual Staff- 3,4-co-editor, Girls Basket- ball Cheer 1eader-3 John Edward LaBree Choir-3,4, Track-1, FFA- 1,2,3,4, Math Tean -2, Rodeo Club-1,2 Camer a Sue Kel1 nor Band-1,2,3,4, Choir-I,2,3,4, Carterettes-1,2,3,4, Girls Basketbal1 -1,2, FHA-1,2,3,4, Student Counci 1-3, Jazz Band-1,2,3 Micheal Wayne Mittelstedter Shane Leon Mu1 key Intramural Vol1eybal1-3,4 Band-4, Choir—2,3,4, C Club-3,4, Boys Basketball 2.3.4, Track-3,4, Football- 1.2.3.4, FHA-4, Student Counci 1-4, All Conference Footbal1-3,4 11 Sandra Fae Nies Choir-4, Carterettes-1,2,3,4 Math Team-1,2, Speech team- 3,4, Academic Qlympics-4, Broadcaster-1,2, 3, Annual Staff-3,4-business manager. The Presidential Election of 2000 had drawn an enormous crowd to the capital city, including myself- Vou see, an old class mate was running for President. Banners filled the city savinq Go George Go. I was suprised to find that Larry Brence still used his high school nickname. I waved down a taxi and was greeted by the giggliest taxi driver I have ever known. Darcy Rollins smiled at me and asked my destination. She headed toward the election offices and explained how much she still loved to cruise town. She asked me if I wanted to go out on the town later. Of course, I agreed, but I was disappointed to discover that I had missed the big car race between Racing Ron WolLf and Blazing Bud LaBree. Their desire for cars and speed had become their life long career. We reached the Presidential oft ices, and 1 bade Darcy far well until later. I turned to qo into the office when the store across the street caught my eye—The Western Wade. It was the largest western star? I have ever seen. All styles were designed from the Double Dave look. I realized I was running late and rushed into the Presidential office. Good afternoon, Vicki Jardee said from behind the scretary's desk. She had become Larry's right hand person and kept control of all activities. We talked for a while, and I learned that Leslie Quade had become a chemical engineer and played in the Philharmonic on her vacations. Vicki said that she was expecting Cammy and Jason any moment. They had been married for quite a few years now. Cammy had become the head hairdresser in Ekalaka. I asked what else had been happening in Ekalaka and discovered that Ann Ward had been caught trying to feed the old foils M Ms on one of her rounds, and that the sheriff, Mike Mitt1esteader, had to give her a warning. All of a sudden, I heard the taxi honking. Darcy had returned. I left Vicki and joined Darcy for a memorable evening. First we went to a rock concert. Gerald Hutchinson played and sang the best concert I have ever seen. We waited for him, and he joined us for a drink. We went to the Play Person bar. Equal right have set in fully and even affected Playboy- Remember this is 2000 and nothing sports a sexist title. But even though titles may change the idea behind them still exists. The waitresses were still playperson bunnies, and Kathy Kittelmann was the prettiest one there as she lead us to our table. All of a sudden the bar's stage lit up and a male dancer jived his way across the stage. Recognizing Shane Mu1 key, we waved, and he strutted and danced to our table. We discussed classmates for a time, and Shane informed us that Nancy Sainsbury had made it into Major League Baseball. She had the toughest swing on the team, and a glare that squelched every pitcher that she came across. Rumor has it that she may be voted MVP. Time had flown, and we were all tired out. We said our goodbyes and I went to my hotel for a good night sleep. My alarm screamed its message to arise, and I struggled out of my bed. I turned on my T.V. to be greeted by the Good Morning Show hosted by cheerful Sandra Nies. She had made it into show biz and still said Good morning people as cheerily as ever. Something in the background laughter in the show reminded me of my old friend, Melanie Emery. Nobody has a laugh to match hers. And then I remebered; Melanie had qone into the canned laughter business and had made it big time. I was about to change the channel when an advertisement for Fix Fashions flashed across the screen. There was Loralee Fix, a designer for crazy new fashions, modeling her own styles in the ad. I smiled to myself; our class had done great for themselves. Then I began to repack; I had to return to my health spa. 3y Amy Pedersen I, Wade Anderson, of sound mind and body, will my skill of chewing Copenhagen in all classes and in front of Mr. Tuggle to Fred Dingfelder and Justin Kerr. I will my ability to find a party when there isn't one to anybody who wants it. I will my ability to do good in English to Mitch Schwede. I, Larry Brence, will my ability to pass tests with minimal amounts of study time and worry to John and Corbit and my ability to look in a mirror without combing my hair to Rick Brown. I, Melanie Jo Emery, being of sound mind and body, will my ability to laugh loud, but chew my gum louder to Darcie Boggs. I, Gerald (Gerard) Hutchinson, will my ability to slam the basketball to David (Slamma Jamma) Beach. Oh, by the way— Happy E irthday, Slamma! I, Vicki Jardee, will my ability to be in class 25% of the time and wandering the halls 75% of the time to James Sterling Speelmon. He has a good start. I, Camera S. Kellner, will my ability to play in band for 4 years to Jim Speelmon, and my ability to go out with one guy to Rochelle Carlisle. I, Spudder the Great (Buddy LaBree), will my ability to blow up an engine and a stereo, wear out my timing gears and a good set of tires, tear out two sets of motor mounts, and run the front wheel off of my car during the course of one school year, and still be alive, to Mitch and Darren Schwede. It will take both of you to match this. I, Michael Wayne Mittelstedter, being of sound mind and body (hopefully), will my ability to grow my hair longer than past my ears to the Breding brothers and my ability to drink and not get caught to a few Juniors. I, (Mr. Modest) Shane Mulkey, will my good-guy reputation and my ability to make every girl's parents proud to Clayton Jardee and Ty Teigen. And my locker to Gerry Mackay. I, Sandra Fae Nies, will my ability to be cheerful in the mornings to Shannon Yates. It’s really not that hard! I, Amy Elizabeth Pedersen, will my ability to be involved in everything and not excel at anything and yet enjoy it all to Nadine Davis. Good luck and have fun. 15 Leslie Quade, will my ability to stay on basketball training rules for four consecutive years to my sister, Nikki. Well, I better make that three years, since you already blew the first one! I, Darcy Rollins, will my ability to keep the great school alive and have as much fun on weekends as I have to anyone who can handle it! Good luck! I, Nancy Sainsbury, will my ability to foul out of 8 of the 21 games in the season and only have 1 game with under 3 fouls to Cathy Castleberry. She is doing a good job so far! I also will my javelin-throwing technique to Mish Speelman. She already has the muscle. Right, Jim and Tom? I, Kathy Turbi Turbiville, will my Farrah Fawcett hairdo, as Mr. Woodden calls it, to none other than Coach Woodden. The secret is, Coach, stop cutting it so short on top! I, Ann Ward, will my M M’s and gum to anyone who thinks they can consume that much. And my laugh and weirdness to anyone who thinks they can handle the job. Good luck! I, Ron Wolff, of absent mind, will my ability to sleep in any class and hand in all computer assignments on the last day of the quarter to anybody that can handle this much talent. I also will my great talent of spinning cookies without my parents catching me to Mitch Schwede, and the ability to cop slide a pickup without going into the ditch to Beaver. Good luck, guys! We, the Class of 1985, will to the Class of 1987 lockers 1—20. After much deliberation, we have concluded that they are the most deserving of this privilege because of the prestige demanded in such a position. JUNIORS Scott.
