freshmen worried what the year of 1980-81 would bring in that big old school. We were somewhat relieved to find that Mr. Mauch and Mrs. Blair would be watching over us as our sponsers instead of just the seniors watching over us!- As we became aware of high school life, we elected our first class officers. Lorenda Fix was elected President, Bob Laird was our Vice President, Tom Emerson was the Sec. Treas. and Clint Pedersen was the student council representative. the class consisted of Brook Anderson, Darin Anderson, Bill Barrere, Lance Barrere, Don Blanchard, Jon Carey, Linda Elmore, Laurel Erickson, Lisa Figg, Robbie Fix, Lorenda Fix, Tom Emerson, Tom Gundlach, Bob Laird, Vicki Munro, Terra Nies, Clint Pedersen, Russ Pickens, Clint Rollins, Patty Rose, Ken Speelmon, Rod Strait, Laun Tauck and David Wolff. After our freshman year, we really thought we knew what high school was all about. After the many bumps and bruises of initiation we thought we had it made, but we were wrong1 The new high school created a new challenge. As we entered that new building, we discovered that we had lost Darin Anderson and Lisa Figg but had gained Rita Anderson. We also lost Mrs. Blair as our sponser but gained Mrs. Richards, the new Home Ec. teacher. To lead us through our sophomore year, we elected Clint Pedersen as President, Lauri Tacuk as Vice President, Ken Speelmon as Sec. Treas. and Linda Elmore as the student council representative. As upperclassmen, we realized that we had a prom to put on and we needed money. With this in mind, we started looking for people to do some work on money making projects. We then realized that we had lost Brook Anderson at semesters and that we had gained Irene Dingfelder, Rocky Millis and Joe Harkins during the summer. We were now 25 strong, not including the additional advisor, Mr. Reiger. Tom Gundlach was the lucky commander in chief of the unambitious Junior Class. Lauri Tauck was once again the Vice President and Lorenda Fix was now taking notes and trying to balance the books as Sec. Treas. Vicki Munro was elected as the Junior Class student council representative. We finally made enough money for prom and it was a great succuss as we finished the seniors off with the theme of Endless Love . As big Seniors and rulers of CCHS, we found ourselves with the fast gain and loss of Darla Spieser, which then left us with the same 25 classmates and 3 advisers. We now had Linda Elmore as President, Jon Carey as Vice President and Rita Anderson as Sec. Treas. After electing our officers, we sat back and relaxed into the great life of being seniors. We had a memorable year, especially the prom and the hard time we had planning Baccalaureate and Graduation. The graduating class of 1983 consists of 25 excited young adults ready to meet the oncoming world. 67 I, Rita Mae Anderson, being of sound mind and body, will my ability to chase cowboys to my dear cousin Samone Anderson and my ability to have a blast all -four years o-f high school to Carla Davis. We also hope that every girl can receive names like Gertrude and Geraldine, and that they can find partners like Alfred and Andrew. twenty Years After Laun Tauck and I were sittinq in her office discussing the past. We thouqht that it was really strange how our biq high school dreams came true. Laun said that when we used to tall: on the phone for hours, she didn’t ever think that she would be a famous fashion designer and own her own twenty story glass building in down town Dallas. As I thumbed throuqh my National Enquirer, I told her that 1 thouqht that she would never leave her steady boyfriend, KC Keith, and move down to Dallas. 1 told her to listen as I read a headline from my paper to her. Famous Recording Star Shoots Both Jealous Boyfriends, A Story For Enquiring Minds. Lauri said it was not so unusual and that it happened all of the time. I told her that I would just call up Vicki Munro and ask her if it really was true. 1 picked up the phone and called Hollywood. I asked Vicki if the story was true. She said that it was true, but she laughed and told me that she had missed both of them. Then she asked me if 1 heard the latest gossip from Hollywood. She told me that it was rumored that a new movie called Adventures with Clyde was about to be filmed. She then told me that two of our classmates, Don Blanchard and David Wolff, owners of the International Scout Company, were co-stars with a stuffed ape called Clyde. She told me that she had to go, so we said goodbye and hung up. I told Lauri that talking to Vicki made me wonder what the rest of the class was up to. She thought that we should find out so she called for her private jet and we started off. Due to enqine trouble, we had to land in Denver so we thought it would be a qood time to see the city. We rented a limo and set out to see the town. We drove around for awhile and then we pulled up in front of a building with the name of Barrere on it. We wondered if it was any relation to the Barreres that we went to hiqh school with. We went up to the door and read the sign on it, Berrere’s Private Louis L'Amour Library. 1 said to Lauri that it had to be Bill Barrere. It was, so we went in to talk to him. He told us that he had the larqest collection of Louis L'Amour books in the world. When we as ed about his brother Lance, Bill told us that he had qrown tired of the Beaver Flats and had QGne to New York to be a qiqolo. He said that he didn't know what a qiqolo was, but it sure did sound like a lot of fun. By now the jet was ready, so we were soon on our way to Ekalaka. When we got to Ekalaka, Laun had a car waitinq for us so we headed in to town. All of the sudden, flashing red lights appeared behind us. The hypo pulled us over and then we saw that it wasn’t just any hypo, it was Pocky Mi 11 is. We asked him what he had been up to. He told us that he had been an undercover agent for the FBI, but he had to retire because everyone could recognize his lips and nose. He told us on the way to town that Rod Strait was now the head mechanic at the Lamp Crook barage. He gave us a ticlet and sent us on our wav. Lauri and I decided to go see the old high school. There we found Joe '•Snake Marlins trying to fiqure out a way to keep his pole vaulters from qettinq cotton mouth. We tailed for awhile and Joe told us that Bob Laird was now giving ballet lessons to the New York Ballet Corp. Joe had to go help his vaulters so we headed for big down town Ekalaka. We wenf to the Old Stand bar. We knew for sure that we would be able to find someone that we knew down there. Sure enough. Irene Dinqfelder had finally invested enough money in the bar so now she was the proud owner of it. She told us that Robbie Fix and Clint Pedersen were now enjoyinq fame and fortune after posing for Playqirl Maqazine’s Sexy Man Of The Month Contest. Then she told us that Lorenda Fix was so heart broken over the whole affair that she had joined a convent with twelve foot walls. Irene as!ed us if we knew that Tom Emerson and Linda Elmore had finally gotten out of the armed forces and were so disgusted with the problems of the world that they were now heading world-wide demonstrations for world peace. 70 Me had a drink and then headed next door to the Waqon Wheel Cate. It was quite a surprise to see Rita Anderson still working there. She told us that after her fifth marriage to a cowboy never worked out, she had given up on men and had bought the cafe with her alimony checks. She told us that Jon Carey now owned Carey's Used Cars so he could drive a different car every week, just like he had in high school. Tom Gundlach came runmnq into the cafe and he asked us if us it we had heard the news. Clint Rollins was going to run for President of the United States and that his campaign manager was Terra Nies. I asked Tom what he had been doing with his life. He told me that he was still trying to find a way to make legs grow longer - Me decided it was time to head for home. We boarded our jet and took off. Lauri turned on the radio just in time to catch the last of the news. Surgical technician sued for sewing up medical equipment in a patient. Russ Pickens said he was innocent and it was the doctor's fault, not his. We had just landed in Dallas and we headed for the office. We saw a banner advertising the Miss U.S.A. Contest. We stopped to watch and we were very surprized to see Laurel Erickson as one of the contestants. She didn't win, she was disqualified because the judges found out that she had secretly married her South Dakotan Lover. We finally got to the office. When we opened up the door, the phone was ringing. Lauri picked it up and talked for awhile. After she had hung up, she told me that it was the chairperson of the rights for cats and dogs committee, the humane society's director, Patty Rose, asking for a contribution. I said that it sure was nice to find out what our class had been doing. Lauri agreed as she said, “Well Mr. Speelmon, you better get busy, you still have the fourth floor to clean. Class Poem Believe in yourself and in your dream though impossible things may seem. Someday, some how you'll get though to the goal you have in view. Mountains fall and seas divide before the one who in his stride takes a hard road day by day sweeping obstacles away. Believe in yourself and in your plan say not - I cannot - but, I can.
