EMSWEILER POOL EKALAKA LION'S CLUB The Ekalaka Lion's Club was organized in the fall of 1947 for the sole pur- pose of serving the community A Lion does not expect any monetary remuner- ation for his services, but receives his satisfaction in knowing that he is making the community a better place in which to live and rear the children who are to be the future citizens and leaders of their communities and their country. He also has the satisfaction of knowing that he is a member of the largest service organization in the world with the same purpose in mind, SERVICE. unng its entire life the E3 alaka Lions Club has favored projects which in one way or another aid the young people of the community Much of this is done by working through the schools and other youth groups. Although it would be impossible to name all of these projects, the following list benefiting the grade and high school students is impressive: The purchase of large musical instruments for CCHS; Equipment to do sight screening for all children in Carter County; Planted grass at the Athletic Field and purchased watering equipment, also built new bleachers; Constructed the swimming pool and then deeded it to the town of Ekalaka, also has accepted the responsibility for maintenance of the pool included paying for the lifeguard; Hosts the Recognitio Banquet for outstanding students; Has purchased eye glasses for children who otherwise could not afford them; Aided in the purchase of high school band uniforms; Sponsors a Babe Ruth baseball team as well as a Cub Scout group- Assists with repairs at Camp Nee dm ore; Sponsors many immunization clinics for children and adults; Contributed to the purchase of the Boy Scout Bus its repairs and expenses on trips; and lastly aided in securing a good doctor for Carter County. 2 This book is dedicated to the Ekalaka Lion's Club in acknowledgement of the outstanding service they have rendered to the school and to our community. But really is there an end to anything? All our lives we will be looking for the end of this, or that, or whatever. Let us not keep looking for the end but, let us keep looking for solutions to help make the inevitable end better. Let us in our hopes and prayers look for that which.will not only help make C. C. H. S. a better place, but the whole world a better place not only to live but to survive as well. My Congratulations to the Seniors of 1960. May God bless you and keep you. Sincerely, William E. Freshmen Thirty-six students showed up to begin our year as a freshman class which was to be one of the largest in C.C.H. S. We later lost Donald Purdon and Jim Kutzler to make us now thirty-four strong. We worked hard an enjoyed our first Homecoming in C. C.H. S. Our candidates for king and queen, Scott Kittlemann and Emily Lovec, were both chosen first runners-up. Our window took second prize and our float won first place. During the rest of the year we were busy with football, basketball, track, and music in addition to our academic courses. We sponsored a sock-hop and put on a casserole supper, with the help of our parents, making us one of the richer classes in the school. We enjoyed our first year in C. C. H. S. and would like to thank Mrs Palaniuk, our advisor for helping to make it such a successful one. 6 Michael Cline Rhonda Erickson Ray Farnsworth 7 Timothy Kortum Tracy LaBreck Emily Lovec Roger Ludwick Stephen Palaniuk Charies Parks Dallas Peabody Kenneth Schultz Theresa Speelmon Toni Talkington Connie Tauck Valerie White Justin Yates Class Officers: R.
