Text from Pages 1 - 80 of the 1969 volume:

CARTER COUNTY HIGH 2 SCHOOL STUDENTS - 1969 TO THE GRADUATES, AND STUDENTS OF 1969: May the future hold for you--your greatest desites. In order, however, to reach these goals you will have to take an active part in the reformation that is needed to up-date the educational systems of this county, of this nation. Educationally speaking, we have come a long way, but we are far short of the goals that are anticipated. As you go into the world, you must recognize that changes, where needed, must be made and will be made inspite of you or me. We can no longer sit back and say Let John do it. We must become an integral part of our community and of our society and work for the development of all areas to the fullest extent. As you enter this new adult world, remember that progress is not meant to be a derogatory term, but a term of future promise—for the good of the community and all of society in general. With kindest regards, W. E. PALAN1UK BOARD OF TRUSTEES Donald Hughes, Pres. Charles Guyer, PatBryne, Roland Quade, Clerk P. Hunter, Mrs. Pat Cleveland. Loyd Townsend. Missing, Mis. We ordered our rings a week after school began and anxiously waited for them until there arrival in late November. Our class play was entitled The Imaginary Invalid. Rod Tauck and Teresa Kennedy played the leading roles. There were many parts in the play and other jobs to do so that everyone in the class took part in the play. During Homecoming we all worked very hard on both the float and the window. Our window placed first. Ve Juniors were both proud and happy that our King candidate, Randy Peterson, was elected King and Rosina Tauck, our Queen candidate, was first runner-up. Our most important activity was earning money for the Junior-Senior Prom. We had several bake sales and a raffle. Our Prom theme was love is Blue. Blue and White crepe paper was used to carry out the theme. The Mavericks provided music enjoyed by all. Kenny Penn and Lynn White reigned as King and Queen for the evening. SOPHOMORES Twenty-one Sophomores reported to home room on the first day of school, fully prepared to make this a better year than the previous one. When homecoming came, this readiness was shown and we came through with flying colors. 6 We Sophomores have participated in all activities open to us. Some of the results have been: two sophomore girls attending the state track meet, five Sophomore boys were on the team at this year's tournament, one Sophomore boy attended the state track meet, and two Sophomores lettered in football. All in all, we have had a very good year and are looking forward to being Juniors next year. FRESHMEN The Freshmen class of 1968-'69 began the year with a total of 27 students. Our class advisor was Mr. Swenson. We were busy dodging water balloons, etc. thrown by the Sophomores when we were painting the Our class hosted two sock hops, two bake sales, and a fishing tackle raffle. For Homecoming, Marlee Owen was chosen Queen and our float placed first in the parade. This was our first year at C.C.H.S. and we are looking forward to three more. Frankie S. G Pat L. Ken T. G Myron J. Dale D. AT TIMES AND WE RECEIVED AWARDS SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On August 25, 1965, 39 bewildered Freshmen entered the doors of Carter County High School. We found that our Freshmen class was one of the largest to enter C.C.H.S. in many years. During our first week as Freshmen, we elected class officers. They were as follows: Rusty Jardee, President; Alice Yates, Vice-President; Amina Yates, Secretary; Barbara Shelden, Treasurer; and Jerome Cuny and Kenny Penn, Student Council Representatives. Mr. Boyd was our sponsor. We became full-fledged Freshmen by fulfilling the traditional initiation requirements of whitewashing the C . As Homecoming was just around the comer, we began making preparations. Kathy Major was selected as our Homecoming Queen candidate. Before we knew it, our Freshmen year had nearly passed and we were eagerly awaiting summer vacation. When we returned as Sophomores, we realized several of our classmates were missing. However, John Schwede, Gordon Murphy, and Cecil Beach had joined us. We immediately chose our class leaders for the year. They were: Cecil Beach, President; Kenny Penn, Vice-President; Alice Yates, Secretary-Treasurer; and Cheryl Bush and Rusty Jardee, Student Council Representatives. Being Sophomores, we thoroughly enjoyed initiating the incoming Freshmen. Mr. Boyd was still our sponsor. Our Homecoming Queen candidate was Lynn White. Finally, the time arrived when we became upper classmen. Our new class sponsor was Mr. Halberg. With the addition of Jack Owen, John Kohl, Barbara Hutton, and Beverly Hutton, our class consisted of 34. The class officers for our Junior year were: Kenny Penn, President; Jack Owen, Vice-President; Rusty Jardee, Secretary; Cheryl Bush, Treasurer; and Neal Heggen and Kathy Major, Student Council Representatives. With the new Homecoming arrangement in effect, we eagerly prepared for its activities. Kenny Penn was selected as our Homecoming King candidate and Alice Yates as our Homecoming Queen candidate. Alice was elected Homecoming Queen. .___________ Next on the agenda for our Junior year, we presented a hillbilly play entitled HEADIN FOR A WED DIN a hilarious three act comedy. , In the spring we prepared for the grand events of the year—the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. I he Prom theme was Shower of Stars. After three seemingly short years, we had reached the rank of Senior. Our class now consisted of 32 students. Barbara Shelden left us to be married, but is completing high school through correspondence. She will, therefore, be remembered as a member of the Class of '69. To lead our class for our final year, we selected the following officers: Neal Heggen, President; Don Jesperson, Vice-President; Edwina Loken, Secretary; Lynn White, Treasurer; and Jeri Brence and Kenny Penn, Student Council Representatives. Mrs. Palaniuk was our new class sponsor. __ , , We worked extra hard for Homecoming. Our Homecoming King and Queen candidates were John Kohl and Edwina Loken. , , c r i Before we knew it, our Senior year was drawing to an end. Frantically, we rehearsed tor the Senior v iass Play, MAN OVERBOARD, which turned out to be a successful production. We anxiously aw aited the final social events of the year--the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Kenny Penn was selected Prom King and Lynn White was chosen Prom Queen. These last six weeks we have been busily preparing for the class picnic, class night, Baccalaureate, and Commencement. The Class of 69 feels grateful to have been a part of Carter County High School these past four years and will miss it a great deal. 57 SENIOR CLASS WILL I, Keith Beach, will my flying feet to Bill Lamb in hopes that Bill will quit dragging his.
