Class N e 1 1 i e T. R a 7 C. History Lonnie H. Just four years ago in 1935 a group of twenty-nine wide eyed and excited pupils entered through the doors of CCHS to enroll as freshmen. We found out that Mr. Charles Simons was to be our class sponsor at our first class meeting. The class elected Ray Carlisle, president Linda Turbiville, Tice president Louise Elmore, secretary and Leland Morrison, treasurer. Louise Elmore was selected as our Home- coming queen candidate. Early in the year we were initiated by the sophomores and it proved to be as much fun as we had anticipated. The sophomores gave us a dance that night. After Homecoming we gave them a dance in return. May rolled around and we still hau to paint the C . Under the strict orders of the sophomores we climbed the C hill. We got nearly as much white wash on ourselves as we did on the C . As we left for a summer vacation, we were already thinking about returning as sopho- mores, Benay M. Counting noses as we registered as sophomores we were sorry to find that Martha Laveli, George Wieck, David Walker, and Beverly Ewalt were not with us. We were happy though to have several new members in the class. They were Jim and Twyia Harkins, Jim Jordan, and Florence Kirkwood At our first class meeting we were very happy to have Mr. Simons back as our sponsor. We elected Harrison Sykes, president Keith Lest vice president Betty Loehding as secretary-treasurer and Betty was also selected as our queen candidate. We looked forward to the initiation this year, as we were the ones doing the initiating. We had the freshies dress in various odd costumes and then we gave them a oance that night. They returned the favor a few weeks later with a short play and dance During our last semester we were sorry to lose Bill Yates, wno left us to join the Navy. May again appeared on the calendar and we sophomores decided that it was time to get the freshmen on their way to painting the C hill This was fun and we made sure that they did a good job. We left school with much enthusiasm and thinking of returning as upper classmen next fall On September 3, 1937, twenty-two juniors enrolled. We were now upper classmen We were sorry to see that Jim ana Twyla Harkins, Jimmy Townsend, Loretta Powell, Florence Kirkwood, and Jimmy Jordan were not in our midst. Beverly Ewalt was with us again and al ter a short time Diane Sutton joined us. At our first class meeting we were glad to see Mr. Simons back as our sponsor We elected class officers as follows! Frank Harrington , president Ronald Markuson, vice president, and Linda Turbiville, sec- retary— treasurer. For our Homecoming queen candidate we selected Linda Sandy. After hard work and campaigning we were all very happy to see Linda walk down the gym floor as queen. We ordered our class rings, and showed them off to everyone as we were naturally very proud of them. Under the direction of Mr. Simons we presented our class play The Cr.re of the Missing Heirs December 10 Linda Sandy and Betty i-oehding were choson to go to Girl's State, their alternates were Linda Turbiville and Myrna Blutt. The Boy’s State delegates were Harrison Sykes and Ray Carlisle, with Frank Harrington and Bryson Taylor as their alternates. For our prom theme we chose Outer Space ana the date was set lor May 3 Our junior year ended May 2U, with all of us looking forward to the day we would becc r seni ors. Linda S. 15
