Our class has produced many of the prominent figures in the history of Carson Long. They will long be remembered and will long remember their Alma Mater. They have been through hard places and periods of darkness but have come through all these. It is regretful that all who started out are not here at the Hnish. Dryden, who matriculated in 1925, and Dozer in 1924, are the foundation upon which our class has grown. There is then a gap until 1928 when Mayon, Gloerzner, Ogden and R. McDonald began their studies here. During the next year Conroy, Foss, Schweder, Wagar and Curran entered Carson Long. In 1930 Murray, Grove, H. McDonald, Bergman, Bruce, Gellis, Graves and Wilkins joined our class. This year Beaucar and Watkins completed the class roll. Our class has been foremost in every line of extra-curricular endeavor. We instituted many innovations which have greatly improved our Alma Mater. Last year we published a grealy improved Carsonian. We have also betrered The Red and Blue and ameliorated the Senior Class Ring. We now feel fully prepared to meet the problems of the world facing us, f iii-xii f I 9 f 3 a , il 1, 37 THE c.A a Hg! s 0 ui FA . ,,, A' Li E ' E1 an 'if' ' 9 4 i-, .n' 38 x CLASS SENIOR THE A-fi. Whitney Mayon It is the year 1950 and I am strolling along Mazda Pike, better known as Broadway. I look up at the tiers of elevated streets and sigh a long, wistful sigh-I'm lonely for the old gang as I haven't seen them since '32. I round the corner of 46th street and my attention is arrested by a huge sign with the name Dozer on it. Can it be true? I ask myself. I dash forward eagerly but stop sud- denly, alas! it is a Burlesque house and our class president is the leading comedian of the show Billy's Buxom Blondes. Iturn away and remorsefully pick my way across the street. A flea circus and a shooting gallery attract my attention. I stroll in and there is Leo Bergman, he is instructor in the shooting gal- lery. He stumbles over to me and after a most affable greeting, he leads me over to the flea circus and there is Graves, a trainer of fleas! Graves told me that Ogden, H. McDonald and Gloetzner were Admirals in the Swiss navy. Foss, Lewis, Neikirk and Bruce had pooled their resources and had a Pagoda built for the smokers of Carson Long. Immediately there- after they filed a petition for bankruptcy. Wilkins and Curran were in a vaudeville act touring the country and were laying the whole populace out in the aisles with their antics. They played beautiful harmony, Curran play- ing the zither and Wilkins struggling with the oboe. R. McDonald, Grove and Conroy were grafters. I was broken-hearted at this revelation but my worst fears were soon allayed when I learned that they had been grafting a piece of rubber tube with an ear of corn, the result of which was an egg plant. The country at large claimed them for their advancements in horti- culture. Dennison with his cohort Doc Watkins was astounding the scientific world with their discoveries of the ingrown toe-nail germ and the isolation of said germs. The suffering millions presented each of them with a chro- mium-plated upper set of teeth. Petura was called the Wolf of Wall Street, because of his unscrupulous tactics in the pull- ing of purse strings of widows and orphans. The rumor was that he was only a figure-head and that the real power behind the throne was those hard-hearted, unrelentless gentlemen Hope and Boyce. Dryden, Price and Taylor, prominent mem- hers of the Governor of Panama's reception committee, were the champion rum-punch drinkers of Panama. Wagar and Schweder were coaching the na- tional championship basketball team, that of Whoosis University, Murray owned the biggest chain of free-air stations in the country with Beaucar and Snider furnishing the air. Gellis was just a broken down columnist for The Hoboken Bugle. I left my post at the flea circus and drifted over to the Ritz where I picked up a couple of the healthiest looking cigar butts and then ambled to my place in the Times Square bread- line for my evening repast. FREDERICK BEAUCAR- Fred -Fred fought with all the vim befitting a varsity man but was unable to win his letter. We are sorry to lose him. VUILLIAM BUTLER- Bill -Bill on several occasions proved his worth, especially in the Valley Forge game. Butler has two more years of competition and we look for big things from him. t JOSEPH CONROY- joe -This year we had only one Captain instead of the usual two. However, the loss was not felt for due to Joe's noble generalship he more than made up for the deficiency. He leaves us in June. WILBUR FLICKINGER- Flick -If this boy is a specimen of the players they pro- duce in Fort Vfayne we hope they send a few more like him. He was one of the hardest chargers on the team. Red was the best all-around player on the team, he could dribble, pass, shoot and pivot in a manner befitting a Champion. He also held the honored position of Captain. Here's wishing you luck in college, Red. STUART DUKE HALL-Forward. Duke played a flashy game at forward. When the extra points were needed he was right there on the job. It was hard to tire out this forward. He kept going as strong at the last of the game as at the beginning. We are depending on Duke for the coming year. JAMES JIM SCHWEUER-Center. Tall, rangey and agile, jim was a great asset to his team. He was most effective at the tip off and under the basket, although his floor work is to be commended, also. It is with great reluctancy that we see this man graduate. ROBERT Bos WATKiNs-Guard. A good defensive man and a sure passer, Watkins embodied all the essentials of a fine guard. Although Bob was not the best point maker he was the best point saver. EDWARD TED Huisu-Guard. Few realize the responsibilities of a running guard. He must be fast on the break being virtually on the defense and offense at the same time, and those who saw Ted play know that he knows his business. STANLEY USQUIREH WILKINS-Center. Squire was another strong defensive man. His ability lay in his deceptive passing and handling of the ball. Squire was not a regular but he had an important part in the reserve power of the team. TRAVIS UTRAVH FULTON-Guard. To many of us, Arizona is a far call from basketball but Trav proved this to be wrong by his fast and dazzling attack. With two more years remaining before graduation much is expected of this lad. ROBERT Bos HOFFMAN-Forward. Although Hoffman did not have much chance to prove his worth in a game he was by no means an indifferent player. On the contrary, he was held down only because of the unusual and hard schedule the Red and Blue five faced this year. We feel confident that Bob will be playing Varsity on the '33 squad. 2 J roam - 88 --f..7 i 'ra-I E c A 0 N I A N . ..,, Bl Erzrrur Basketball Squash OT enough credit is given to the scrubs. Due to an accident to our other twirler Neil Barkell, Bakeman did double duty on the mound. He did remarkably well considering the strain he carried throughout the season. JAMES JIM SCHWEDER-Firrz Bare. Being tall of stature and long of arm jim was right in his element at First Base. Seemingly impossible balls to catch he snared with ease, digging them out of the ground or picking them out of the air. THOMAS TOM FINCH-Second Bare. Tom covered more ground than any one man on the team. He seemed to be everywhere at once. His fielding work is to be commended and as for his batting he rarely let a third strike get past him. JOHN JACK WATSON-Shvfl Stop. jack must have been born with a ball glove on his hand because he played with such ease and flawlessly. He had his timing for fly and ground balls down pat. He was also an excellent base runner. WILLIAM SHADOW LINCK-Third Bare. Although he did not play a stellar role on the team he played a steady and dependable game at the hot corner. Cool headed and alert, Linck was quick in sizing up a team and could wait patiently for the breaks. GEORGE VAN VAN HOUTEN-CBHIEY Field. Van was the Babe Ruth of the team, collecting more home runs than the whole team put together. When he put his beef behind the old wagon tongue and spanked the horse- hide it was sure to go for a ride. 'GRANT RED WAGAR-Right Field.
