VARSITY BASEBALL Carson ' s ' 84 baseball team is coached by Mr. Park, coach of 1983 ' s Junior Varsity team. Coach Park seemed very optimistic about this season and his team. He was noted to say, Varsity is a strong team I think we have a good ch ance to make it to the playoffs for the first time in five years. Although their preseason record was 1 in 3, Varsity had a good season. Coach Park encouraged his players to their greatest potential. There are many outstanding play- ers on the awesome team. Tney in- clude Joey Saenz, the number one pitcher of the team, Donnie South- er land, the best all-around player, Roy Tavui, best hustling player, and Angelo Martinez, the short-stop who is considered potential major league material. WE HIT ' EM HARDER! The J. V. ' s returned from a fair 1983 season, in which they placed 3rd in league behind Banning and San Pe- dro. In the 1984 preseason games, the young Colts showed their talent in tne Redondo-Palos Verdes Tour- nament with an opening round win against host team Palos Verdes, 7-5. Unfortunately, the following week they lost to a very good West Tor- rance High team (5-3) and Palos Verdes II (4-3). Hang in there, Colts. The Junior Varsity baseball team is very young this year consisting of 11 sophomores and 6 juniors. Out of the six junior players, four are re- turnees from last year ' s J.V. ' s. They are Tom Pickle, Steve Ichiho, Caesar Delgado, and Kevin Welch. The oth- er two juniors are Tony Lopez and Gilbert Ortega. These players should bring experience and leadership to this talented and young team.
