SENSATIONAL SWIMMERS There ' s nothing like a Carson Swim Meet to get you into the colt spirit. To- getherness and high ambitions have kept the team going strong. The boys var sity, having a 6-3 season, set high goals for themselves to help push them against the tougher teams. The girls ' varsity team, having an 8-1 season losing only to Palisades, has an excellent chance of taking the Marine League title at the prelims and finals. Both teams work out daily at Scott Pool during fifth and sixth periods. A weight training program, set up at Car- son High, is in session to help build mus- cles for the pull and kick needed in swimming. Coach Rossen, of the boys team, and Coach Corian, of the girls team, have put in a lot of hard work for a challenging year. Diving is also a spectacular event at the pool. Rodney Fernandez, a senior, Dcn- ise Smith, a junior, Stacey Hardcastle and Richard Lloyd, sophomores, are off to a good start and are looking forward to the upcoming diving competitions. This year ' s team manger is Dawn Go- mez. V Coach Rossen in his natu- ral habitat. 2) Coach Rossen J! Swimmers look on as Steve Kunitake swims backstroke. 4) BOYS VARSITY - 1st Row (L-R): A. BABY BLUE BALL BLITZERS Early in the season, Coach Wag- goner of the Girls ' Varsity Softball team said the team was in the infant stages because of the many new members. But as the season pro- gressed, the team matured into a winning group of courageous young ladies who had the strong will to win. At the end of every season, the elusive blue ball is awarded. The Blue Ball A ward is given to the player who had the highest defensive plays. The team was also coached by Marco Chavez; whose constant help brought up the team ' s winning ef- forts. 7.
