5 P O R T S This year, Car- son had a great over-all sport season. Sev- eral teams brought home league wins. Among them were: BEE and Varsity Football, BEE Basketball, Junior Varsity Bas- ketball, Varsity Basketball, and Girls ' Varsity Tennis. Since there ' s no city play-offs for the BEES and J. V. teams, only the varsity squads were able to go on to City. At the play-offs, basketball and foot- ball both came up short of becoming City champs. But, at the City Tennis Tournament, The Girls ' Tennis team captured the City title for the second year in a row. Erik Fukushima outmanucvering his oppo- nent. I got it! '

Julie Lovelady, captain and the MVP of the tennis team, won the de- ciding game of the tennis finals. The Girls ' Tennis Team celebrating their victory at the City Tennis Tinals Mr. Ermert will be working as a German interpreter during the summer games. During the 1983 Jr. Olympics, Becky Travers won two silver medals in the swim- ming events. Kellie Shaw and Alan Chu serving as Carson ' s liasons to the 1984 Summer Olympics. No one can wait for the arrival of sum- mer. This summer there ' s something special happening around Los Angeles, that of course is the 1984 Summer Olympics. Car- son High ' s Student Body is doing its share in this spectacular event. Several Carson stu- dents will be performing in the opening day ceremonies, and others will work or serve as volunteers at the different Olympic sites. Involvement with the summer games is not restricted to stu- dents. Mr. Ermert, Carson ' s disciplinary dean, will be involved as a German in- terpreter; a very im- portant position during the Sym- mer Olympic Games.
