KOREAN CLUB -IIB m The Korean Club, under the su- pervision of Mr. Park, was formed for the benefit of students of Korean extraction. A majority of the mem- bers are bilingual, speaking both Ko- rean and English. One of the major events that the club took part in was the Mardi Gras. They also participate in a Korean basketball tournament and have picnics with other schools. Niko (Not Shown) Sponsor, Mrs. Lavilla The Pacific Island Club is designed to meet the cultural and social needs of Carson ' s large Pacific Island popu- lation. Its goal is to unite the Sa- moans, Hawaiians, Tongans, and oth- er islanders through activities on and off campus. Highlights from last year included; dancing at Harbor College for Samoan Flag Day, Christmas pot- luck, and representing Carson High School at the district wide P. T.S.A. luncheon. 46

Academic uecatnaion: wins! ACADEMIC: having to do with schools. DECATHLON: a contest having ten parts. WINNERS: Carson Colt decathlon members. 1983-84 Academic Decathlon competition held at Hamilton High School was a major victory for Car- son ' s team. Mr. Finney, the team ' s coach, expressed pride with his group ' s results. Although the math and science sections were particu- larly difficult, the Colt team managed to shut out Banning, San Pedro, and Gardena. Keep studying Colts! (front) I. Wheeller, A. Chu, T. Kim, N. INDIAN The Indian-Education Program is an organization federally founded for students of American heritage. In this program, they help the Ameri- can Indian students grow in self es- teem, academic achievements, and in awareness and pride in their na- tive American heritage. The club has a field trip annually to U.C.L.A. giving members an op- portunity to meet other Filipino stu- dents from different schools. They also perform authentic Filipino dance.
