Homecoming Dance The October night was warmed by an In- dian summer breeze. Young men and wom- en (dressed in handsome tuxedos and lovely evening gowns) filled the outdoor dance area and danced under the stars. Many cou- ples arriving as dates left the evening as sweethearts. Queen Saitaua Wilson re- crowned King Darryl Morris, and the festivi- ties began. The orchestra strikes the first few notes, the lights dim, the audience settles into hard school chairs; opening night of Car- son ' s production of Bye, Bye Birdie has finally arrived! A love story filled with hilarious situa- tions, Bye Bye Birdie was a great hit. Bye, Bye Birdie is the story of a go- getter musical agent Albert Peterson (Ron Dreyer), his assistant and soon-to-be love Rose Alvarez (Betty Gil), and their Rock and Roll money-maker star Conrad Birdie (Dak Kinser.) Conrad is drafted and the fun begins. Albert searches for the perfect teenager to give Conrad one last kiss on the Ed Sullivan show. Kim Macafee (Annie Nadal) is the lucky girl. Everything should go smoothly, but not in this mixed-up com- edy! The audience was impressed by the quality of the student performances. As in years past, the actors skillfully developed their characters and sang beautifully. Praise also went to orchestra director lames Berk and the student orchestra members. The evening was an unqualified success.
