Class 'His-inrg ln the fall of l9hl twenty-four little crying children left their mothers care and started on their educational career under the direction of Miss Teel. She left at the end of the first semester, and Mrs. Brown came to take us through the remainder of the year. Out of the 1953 Graduating Class the following six people started in the first grade in Carson: Dale Boruff, Sandra Forbus, Madonna Gilligan, Douglas, Hall, Maralene Harvey, and Florence Hooker. Fifteen started out in the second grade with Miss Peterson as our teacher. We all enjoyed the folk and Maypole dances we learned in our play periods. The third grade was very eventful. Miss Larson was our teacher and we added a new pupil to our class. None other than the little fat, pudgy Barbara Schroder, although you could never tell it now. We were then promoted to the higher level of learning, upstairs to the fourth grade under the direction of Miss Steel. We well re- member saying the nPledge to the Flagn and singing uAmerican every morning before school started. Miss Ethel Shook guided us through the fifth grade helping us to advance our knowledge and understanding. We made pie holders, neck tie racks, and sewing racks to give to our parents as Christmas gifts This was the first time we had ever done any work of that type in school and we enjoyed it very much. The sixth grade had now rolled around with Mrs. Wald as our teacher, and we had our first class get-together, a roller-skating party. We added two members to our graduating class in the sixth gradeg Roberta Evans, and Bill Davis. We were now in Junior High, nearing High School. We were inter- ested and worried mostly about our girls and boys basketball teams. Then Dorothyg Shannq and Marjorie Haines joined us and our worries were over. We gave the play 'Wildcat Willy Gets Brainfevern which was the first real play we had ever presented. The eighth grade was an important grade for all because we would soon be in High School. Donna Jo Pierce came from Oakland to increase our enrollment. We presented the plays nShe was only a farmers daughter' and nSauce for the Goslingsn. Then came the big night for all, Eighth Grade Graduation. Our Graduating Exercises were held in the School Audit- orium and afterwards the class went to the Teen-Age Canteen to spend the rest of the evening. Our high School days were now getting started. We were all a little scared of initiation, but it turned out to be fun for all. We were now members of Good Old C. H. S. With the enrollment of Wayne Colvin, Shirley Brummly and Myrna Warren, we now had l8 in our class. Miss McCready was our sponsor and we had some roller-skat ing parties. With everything about High School being new and differ- ent it turned out to be a very exciting year.
