Shirley Jim c11ff Doug Hhrgie 1 Florence Bert Bev sandra Dorothy e m H55 Class 'His-inrg ln the fall of l9hl twenty-four little crying children left their mothers care and started on their educational career under the direction of Miss Teel. She left at the end of the first semester, and Mrs. Brown came to take us through the remainder of the year. Out of the 1953 Graduating Class the following six people started in the first grade in Carson: Dale Boruff, Sandra Forbus, Madonna Gilligan, Douglas, Hall, Maralene Harvey, and Florence Hooker. Fifteen started out in the second grade with Miss Peterson as our teacher. We all enjoyed the folk and Maypole dances we learned in our play periods. The third grade was very eventful. Miss Larson was our teacher and we added a new pupil to our class. None other than the little fat, pudgy Barbara Schroder, although you could never tell it now. We were then promoted to the higher level of learning, upstairs to the fourth grade under the direction of Miss Steel. We well re- member saying the nPledge to the Flagn and singing uAmerican every morning before school started. Miss Ethel Shook guided us through the fifth grade helping us to advance our knowledge and understanding. We made pie holders, neck tie racks, and sewing racks to give to our parents as Christmas gifts This was the first time we had ever done any work of that type in school and we enjoyed it very much. The sixth grade had now rolled around with Mrs. Wald as our teacher, and we had our first class get-together, a roller-skating party. We added two members to our graduating class in the sixth gradeg Roberta Evans, and Bill Davis. We were now in Junior High, nearing High School. We were inter- ested and worried mostly about our girls and boys basketball teams. Then Dorothyg Shannq and Marjorie Haines joined us and our worries were over. We gave the play 'Wildcat Willy Gets Brainfevern which was the first real play we had ever presented. The eighth grade was an important grade for all because we would soon be in High School. Donna Jo Pierce came from Oakland to increase our enrollment. We presented the plays nShe was only a farmers daughter' and nSauce for the Goslingsn. Then came the big night for all, Eighth Grade Graduation. Our Graduating Exercises were held in the School Audit- orium and afterwards the class went to the Teen-Age Canteen to spend the rest of the evening. Our high School days were now getting started. We were all a little scared of initiation, but it turned out to be fun for all. We were now members of Good Old C. H. S. With the enrollment of Wayne Colvin, Shirley Brummly and Myrna Warren, we now had l8 in our class. Miss McCready was our sponsor and we had some roller-skat ing parties. With everything about High School being new and differ- ent it turned out to be a very exciting year. Our except a at which we attended a show in Cmaha and ate at the Maidrite. Now events to handle. Clifton Jefferson, and James Baker came to the small male section of our class. We worked hard on our play Daffy Dillsn and we had a very good turn out. We used the money our play, our carnival and selling Christmas cards to put on the being Juniors our responsibilities increased and we had Sophomore year passed with nothing too exciting happening couple of class parties, a roller-skating party, and a party many help lhrhe from Jun- ior-Senior Banquet. The theme of the Banquet was nPirates Plunder Partyn. We have waited eleven, long, hard years for this year to come, the last of our high school joys, and the time we must go out into the world and make our own decisions. The year was a happy and exciting one for all. We had a class play NHoney in the Hiven, a Scrap Drive, and two bake sales to help earn money for our skip day. At the latter part of the year we were honored at the Junior-Senior Banquet. Beverl Husz joined us at the beginning of the year to 18 Seniors in the 1953 Graduating Class. Front Row: fLert to Right! PUTNAM HARDWARE AND IMPLEMENTS Carson, Iowa make Gflass Druphecg It was on the evening home from work and decided Carson, Iowa. I loaded and was on my way. Before haven Court in Bakersfield, of July twenty seventh, when I hurried to take a trip to my old home town of new pink cadillac down with suitcases leaving, I phoned ahead to the Rest- to get reservations for the night. I my discovered one of my schoolmates was chambermaid there and I could hardly wait till I saw Dorothy Shanno. We had a short visit and she told me that she and Ernie had been married for two years. I left early the next morning and as I stopped to have my car filled with gas before crossing into Oregon, I noticed the man washing my windshield was Cliff Jefferson. He took me to his home, and I met his wife and six lovely children. I was surprised to find out he had married another of our classmates, Donna Jo Pierce. They had a lovely home and after we had taken their six children to school, I was on my way again. I had gone over 300 miles this time before I hit another stop. This time I recognized Dale Boruff walking along side the road. He said he was a driver for Jimmy Lynch. His car broke down and he was walking to town for repairs. He said that Doug Hall was his duel partner. I took him on into town and we met Doug. I stayed over to see their show and after the show they took me to the Silver Slipper for dinner. Barbara Schroder was the head waitress and when she saw me, she dropped a tray bad about this, but she down anyway. All four Doug's dance halls. He of dishes and was fired! I felt pretty said she wanted to get married and settle of us left and went dancing at one of said he had a big surprise for me and when we got there, I found Jimmy Baker and his orchestra were playing. He asked me to sing a few songs with them for publici ty, so I did. He had a very good orchestra except for one of the clarinet players who was always playing louder than anyone else. I found out later that the clarinet player was his wife Sandra Forbus. She talked just as much as ever, so Jim thought it was a good idea to put her in the orchestra. I stayed during the night with Barb at her apartment. Instead of getting to sleep, we stayed up and talked about old limes. The next morning we said good-bye and we were both on our way. I was so sleepy, I couldnt hardly stay awake and I side-swiped a milk truck and landed in a, ditch. The next thing I knew, I was in a hospital with a nurse taking my temperature. The nurse happened to be another .ef .my classmates, Florence Hooker. We had a good chat and she said the woman driver of the milk truck was Marjorie Haines. She came in to see me later and told me to seg her lawyer and get everything straightened out. I thanked Florence for being such a good nurse and we left. As we pulled over to the side of the street in her car, we met a parade, in the front row, were Marines and B111 Davis! Marching behind the marines were the W. M. C. and we saw another of our chums, Shirley Brumley. They stopped right beside our car, so we talked about twenty minutes. When the parade was over we drove on over to Marjoriefs lawyer. It was a woman law- yer and her name was very familiar, then I realized it was Bev -Husz. After we had talked and exchanged old memories, she told us what to do about the insurance, etc. They had taken my car a garage, so we went over to see if they had finished fixing as we were waiting, someone shouted my name. I turned around found Wayne Colvin. He had broken something on his tractor had brought it in to get it fixed. He said his wife was out the car, but he wouldnft say whom it was. We went out to the and found Roberta Evans! Was I ever surprised and I think was tool We went to their acreage and met their children. I really shocked when I saw Myrna Warren come running out of CLASS PROPHECY to it and and in car she was the house. She was a woman horse trainer and she was training some of their horses. That night all of us went to a circus which was held in town. One of their top performers was Maralene Harvey, with her spinning act. She was a very gracious performer. We talked after the show and then it was getting late, so Marge took me sack to the garage to get my car. I was on my way once more and getting anxious to see the old home place, so I didn't make many more stops. I kept thinking what a wonderful trip I had had I saw all of my classmates and friends I used to know, but now I'm getting homesick for L. A., where I am now living. ,It just goes to show you that you can have friends whereever you go.
