We .ue sorry that some of that number left our is school for other institutions of learning, some of them have left school entirely. Although we have lost twenty-six of our original Q class, we have welcomed many new members, so now our class J numbers Hfty-four. Though we try not to show it, we really think 305 our class is the best of C. H. S's classes and I'll give you some of the reasons. First, I wish to remark that Mary Richards and Francis ia! Metz have proved very faithful and capable class officials and richly deserve ou rthanks. Second we believe in study. Mr. Bell has told us that the more we put into our work the more we get out of it, 1 1 and we have taken his advice. Third, the first year our class colors tcrimson and steelj occupied fourth place, but we didnlt understand high school life very Well then. The next year our colors were in third place, but in the junior year they were at the top, and We are working to put them there again this year. The social side of our school life is worthy of mention. It was the members of our class who, under the supervision of our Pro, fesseur de Francais started a French Club in C. H. S. the activities of which We have greatly enjoyed. We have had only two class parties, one the Hrst year and one in our Senior year, but we enjoyed them very much. XfVe have enjoyed our dramatics under Miss Smeltz who coached our Junior play, 'Second Childhood , and will coach our Senior play also. Some of our numbers are musically inclined, also, as we are rep resented in both the orchestra and Glee Club. Qur class- has con- tributed her full share of athletes in football and basketball. Our class was first to have a hundred percent membership in the Athletic Association last year. Still others make us justly proud by the part they play in debate and other school activities. But now our high school life is almost done. VVe must leave our Alma Mater and give our place to others. We are closing a chapter in our life history which is probably the happiest chapter in the story, and we wish to thank our teachers for making it happy and profitable and for their kindness, encouragement, and help of all kinds. XVe wish to thank Mr. Bell but words fail us. Classmates we will never have another friend like XV. R. S. in 1926 with an enrollment of eighty but finished with an enrollment of seventy-live. At our first class meeting we chose Cardinal and Black as our colors, and We Build as our motto. Our class-mates took part in all lines of activities , debate, music and scholarship. In our Freshman year we had one letterman in football, johnson. Qur boys also won the inter-class basketball championship. Our class flag was fourth in regard to grades this year, a position we hope it will never see again. We entered the Sophomore year with our numbers decreased by only two. Our class was well represented in all activitis of the school. In football, letters were awarded to two of our class, Johnson and.Rich- ards. In basketball, Richards was awarded a letter, in girls basketball, letters were awarded to Eisenhut and Achamer. This year our boys again won the inter-class basketball championship. Our flag was second in regard to grades this year, an im- provement over our Freshman year. We entered the Junior year with sixty-two members. At our class meeting we changed our class colors to Red and White and voted to order a class pennant and a banner. We are well represented in all school activities this year and with a splendid faculty, new building, and fine equipment, are working for our best year yet in C. H. S. R. Heiniger, '3O. A , . We were the largest class that has ever entered. WVe are sorry to say that already we have lost four members, leaving ninety-one. At our first class meeting we elected Elma Long, president, and Mary Chaddock, Secretary-Treasurer. We chose Green and White for the class colors, Rose for the class uower and Lux et Veritas for our motto. Although everything was new to us, and we were not accustomed to some of the rules, with the cooperation of the upper classmen and faculty we soon became familiar with everything. We sincerely hope to render to C. H. S. the honor and esteem which is due her, and that dear old Carrollton Hi may be made better by our presence. -Dorthea Heiniger, '32, s '? The Black and White scored 524 points to their opponents 386. This may be called a red letter year from the fact that oui boys gave Bergholz, our old jinx, two good defeats. At the tournament Carrollton drew Clark for their first opponent and easily defeated them. In the second game Adena defeated us by Z1 score of 22 to 18. However the boys played an exceptionally good game. Coach Metz has again proven himself very worthy of his position and we wish him all success in the following seasons. 4 The substitutes also deserve honorable mention for their untii-ing efforts in help- ing to develop the team. 0 1 , , tt 1 01 .4 IIJ. The instrument classes started last fall on Saturday morn- ings and continuing weekly throughout the winter have given many of our talented musicians a free start, and the interest A p created in the work has brought within realization a school band, Q Since the majority of those interested are underclassmen and ' grade students, there is ample material to develop a better eon- t cert orchestra and to build a band to pep up the gridiron and hardwood boys. For band, the trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, and p l percussion sections look promising, however, more horn, trom- I l i V '3 bone, and tuba players must be supplied. ' A Our sole hope is that all concerned will realize the need and i that instruments will be chosen by our incoming musicians which will give more perfect balance, finish, and richer tone color V so essential to a smoothly functioning aggregation. MQHDDUHE e , i U L' fit I 59. ,iq Debate - The debate squad of Carrollton High began their work on the question, .,, A Resolved that the United States should cease to protect by force of arms Q1 Capital invested in foreign lands except after formal declaration of war , in - the latter part of january. Although there were originally fifteen on the ag squad, hard concentrated work eliminated many, and only nine continued ov through the season. ' E . 'F' Dorthea Heiniger, john Miller, Martha Jackman and Robert Tripp have T - upheld the al:l'irmative, while Loren Pretty, Marian Maple, Herbert Graham, ' l e The Iirst debate was held between Sebring and Carrollton, on March S, Q Negative debated at Sebring and the Affirmative at Carrollton. The neg- ative tLoren Pretty, Herbert Graham and Mary McElroy with Marian Maple as alternatej won the decision while the Attirmative tDorthea Heiniger. Martha Jackman and Robert Tripp with John Miller as first speakerj lost by a narrow margin. The Negative team and Orin Stahler acting as alternate, did not gain the decision in the next debate with Lisbon at home, but it was the consensus of opinion that they far outclassed the other team. The Affirmative with john Miller as alternate, won a hotly contested debate with Lisbon on March 14. All of the members of the squad are deserving of commendation for their interest and application in this extra- curricular aetivity which requires so much stamina and hard, grilling work. Since this article had to be submitted to the Annual staff before the close of the season, other debates are not reported here. No small part of the success of the debates this year is due to the splendid and excellent work of Mr. Starr, who gave his time and assistance generously and hearitly. This department functions under the pro- ,U . .2 35. visions of the Smith-Hughes Act of 1917 and receives federal and state aid. Our en- vi Ji ' rollment increased this year in spite of the fact that several of last year's members who lu' 'fo .sg are working did not return to school. 7 , 'EQ The curriculum is so arranged that it affords our students the privilege of replacineg Q5 223 foreign language with an agricultural subject each year. Animal Husbandry was 09 1' offered to Sophomores and Freshmen this year, while the Seniors and juniors studied 1' . I Soils and Farm Management. Next year, Crops will be the Sophomore-Freshman A Q, I subject and the uppcrclassinen will take a course in Engineering. The following year ef Q Animal Husbandry and Soils will be offered the same as this year. Shop is a required 0' l subject taught every yearg it replaces Sophomore Science. Regular Vocational stu- B0 4 dents receive five units in agriculture and one in project work during the four years fl - of High School Work. Every member of th.e class is required to carry a project related to the subject which he is carrying. A project is nothing more than putting into I actual practice on the farm certain things learned in the class room-it ranges in scope and kind from rearing 500 day-old chicks to growing and marketing an acre of potatoes. The department has access to a complete library of books, bulletins, and magazines on agriculture and related subjects. The class room is furnished with all necessary equipment and the shop accomodatcs sixteen boys who have access to a full line of good tools. This year our boys staged creditable exhibits both at the Carroll County and l School Fairs. A weiner roast and a father-son banquet were our leading social ac- tivities of the year. The department wishes to thank the people of the community for their excellent cooperation and interest: and in the near future we hope that we . shall be able to indicate our appreciation by attaining recognition as one of the leading departments in Ohio. -Russel Cole. T This school is having one of the best years in its history. Stu- dents are in attendance from about seventy different high schools located all over Ohio and many other states. It is one of the few schools of business training in the United States having the College Entrance requirements. This makes T 5 it possible to offer advanced courses of business training and it l l is not surprising that it is attracting students from long' distances. i High School graduates can accomplish so much more in a school where all are high school graduates thanin the average business l college where many have had little or no high school training. i The Oberlin School of Commerce is also attracting a num- ber of students who have graduated from college or have had college training. I , Numerous, well-konwn Universities are represented in the student body this year. To those who cannot take a four-year college course Oberlin School of Commerce offers unsual oppor- tunities.
