He was late again but just slinked into his seat in time to hear Mr. Scott's morning announcements. He took the car keys and left on an errand. He must have gone to Lafayette for parts for his car. Mrs. Vaught was paging him to ring the bell. Mr. Scott said he would be here shortly. Someone said they saw Jim a few minutes ago. Announcement was made that since Jim is at school, play practice would be the next period. Jim cannot be found. Mr. Scott said he went to change his tire for him and bring his car to school. Mrs. Vaught changed play practice to last period. She said now that both Mr. Scott's and Jim's cars were running, Jim would be present. Where is Jim? demanded Mrs. Vaught. Mr. Scott had sent him to Kokomo on an errand. Play practice went on without him. And so went Jim's Senior year at Carrollton! 1960 Jim, acting as Sergeant Friday, just received a call that little Jim was not at school. He was late again! He went to get his car. He had to fix the fan belt. The car hasn't started yet! Jim zoomed out to see the child's parents. He arrived at his house. He gave a sincere lecture on the necessity of a child arriving at school on time, Arrived at his office. Principal Scott called in and reported a Senior boy was not at school and was supposedly working on his car. Jim dashed out to find t-he lad. He arrived at the boy's home. He found the evidence of skipping school, missing classes, etc. He brought the boy in and turned him over to Ju- venile Deliquency! Jim goes on his way as Jim, private citizen! 36
