Toppenish ended a seven-game winning streak, but the determined netters went on to upset Kiona-Benton, a team with superior height and experience. A strong defensive effort led to a 45-31 victory over Highland. And, for the final game of the season, stingy man-to-man defense held East Valley, the league champion, to their lowest offensive performance of the year. Among those receiving special recognition were Dave Sams, team captain, t'Chief Thief Kevin Roy, with 48 steals, and Bob Wurtz, lVlost Improved Player. In congratulating his team, Coach John Felton commented, UThis season can be summed up as a total team effort. There were no outstanding individual performances, just many efforts that led to success as a team. Dave Sams plays leapfrog with an opponent. 55
