A small portion of this money is used to finance the Jimmy Adams Memorial Scholarship Award that is given to the most outstanding member of the local Interact Club. A portion of the remaining amount helps to finance some of the members’ trip to the annual Southern Alabama Convention. Another form of raising money is through basketball games with other clubs of the same nature. There is a total of 250,000 members around the world. Students in their last four years of school are eligible for membership in this honorable club; however you must receive a cordial invitation which requires a character of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. These characteristics are judged by the sophomore, junior, and senior members. The Interact Club was chartered in 1964 and has been suc- cessful since then. 1974 is a special year for the Interact Club because it marks a decade of charitable services for the pub- lic. It is the largest high school boys' service club and is found on campuses across the United States and around the world. The Kiwanis Club spon- sors the Key Club and both clubs have enjoyed excellent rela- tions throughout the years. The Carroll High School Key Club successfully lived up to the 1974-1975 administrative theme “Caring — Our Way Of Life, by making contributions of $200.00 to the Alabama Sheriff's Boys' Ranch. Other projects during the year included car washes, assisting the Kiwanians in their annual projects, including the underprivilege childrens' camp and Carson-Bornes five ring cir- cus which came to Ozark in Mid-October, and graduation set-up. The service project for Carroll High this year was the compilation of a Student Directory for the second year which is the most diffi- cult, involved, yet rewarding project the Key Club ever performs. Both in March and in November, the Key Club had the honor of hosting the Spring and Fall Rallies, which included guest speak- ers Congressman Bill Dickinson and 1975 State Governor Hons Watford. Both were very successful. Some of the ideals advocated by the Key Club include the pro- motion of the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and social contacts; the develop- ment by precept and example of a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship; and the cooperation in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high ideals which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will. Key Club Basketball plays an important role in sportsmanship and this year they sported a 12 game schedule. Returning start- ers from last year included Robert Farish, Steve Adcock, Neil Dansby, and Kevin Shuman. Key Club International is open by invitation to all male stu- dents from their freshman through senior years who display promise of living up to the purpose, obligations, and ideals of Key Club. 73 SENIOR MEMBERS: Left to Right: Keith McLaughlin, Steve Adcock, Don Ketcham, Robert Farish, Lessie Warner, Robert Whittaker, Rick Barefield, Ron Dorriety. A win over the Troy Trojans in overtime sparked off the season. This was the first time since 1961 that Ozark has beaten Troy. The next win took place in Tiger Stadium in Selma with a 7-0 region win over the Selma High Saints. The Eagles were most effective in meeting previous Boarder Con- ference powerhouse champions, defeating Eufaula, Opelika, and Auburn for the second straight year. Carroll High losses included a disappointing 6-0 loss to top state ranked Lanier and a wider-spread scoring margins to Dothan, Mil- ton, Fla; Enterprise and an upsetting loss to Andalusia, previously ranked number one in the state 3-A competition. Overall, the Eagles thoroughly enjoyed a 5-5 season and a remarkable 3-3 region record, and have been rated over the state as one of the top notch .500 ball clubs thanks to the efforts and determination of not only the team, but the entire school and com- munity itself. The Senior year is the highlight and dream of everyone who seeks a high school education. Most students look forward to their Senior year, feeling theirs will be the best. And when it arrives, jubilation and uncertainty also accom- pany it. This is indeed a happy and a sad time. Old friends will be left, yet new ones still to unfold. Memories will be reflected upon but not lived in, for life must go on to bigger and better things. It is a time of reaching new horizons, establishing new goals and pursuing old ones. The Seniors of 1975 have brought themselves this far, and built themselves a foundation to add to and improve as they see fit. Stephen Kirby Adcock We've moved on six miles from where we were yesterday, and yesterday is but a long, long ways away. Rebecca Suzanna Alexander Take my hand my friend and I will show you the morning sun. I will teach you all that I know and you will share with me the secret of the heart. It may not be a fair exchange but it's all I have to offer. 78 Marsha Ann Anderson The glory of life is to love, not to be loved; to give, not to get; to serve, not to be served. Donna Kaye Armstrong Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid. For if any man love not his brother, the love of God is not in him. He is phony. Monica June Baker Always live a happy life — or die trying to find one. James Stephen Barefeild There are three things that last for- ever; faith, hope, and love; but the great- est of them all is love. Richard Steven Barefeild All I can do for my friend is to be his friend. Kenneth Lee Beck We once hod a savior, but by our behavior, the one that was worth it is gone. Senior Class Favorites Cindy Mabrey and Bruce Quearry Judy Ann Beasley The difference of race is one of the reasons why I fear war may always exist; because race implies difference, differ- ence implies superiority, and superiority leads to predominance. Evelyn Theresa Billings We, as Black Americans, have a long journey to enhance. Lift your head high, walk proud, turn to God and ask, what will thee have me do? For He has brought us thus far, now it is our turn to step forward; shall it be segregation, inte- gration, liberation . . . Sandra Kay Blakey Love sought is good, but love given unsought is better. Wanda Rebecca Blocker If you love someone you will be loyal to him, always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever. Dennis Ward Bowman A drunkard is like a whiskey bottle, all neck and belly and no head. Johnny LaDell Bradley To everyone who enjoys ‘‘life,'' Good Luck. 180 Edna Mae Brown When white and black and brown and any other color decide they're to live together as Christians, then and only then are we going to see an end to these trou- bles. David Wayne Brown Wisdom is the principal thing; there- fore get wisdom; and with all thy getting, get understanding. Joseph Henry Brown To love and to be loved is the great- est human privilege a person can possess. Sam Harvey Brown A man that hath friends must show himself friendly; and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Gregory Mark Buckinger Hate makes waste. Hate drains time and gets no one anywhere. If all the time Americans now spent hating each other was spent instead on working to improve whatever they dislike, soon there wouldn't be much of anything left to hate. Kay G. Burgess My only sketch, profile, of heaven is a large sky, and larger than the biggest I have seen in June — and in it are my friends — every one of them. 181 Ronald Burke Well, You've cracked the sky, scra- pers fill the air. Will you keep on building higher till there's no more room up there. Will you make us laugh, will you make us cry. Will you tell us to live, will you tell us when to die. I know we've come a long way, we’re changing day to day. But tell me, where do the children play? Barbara Gail Byrd The greatest accomplishment of life is to do and fulfill God's will. Smile, God Loves You. Ann Elizabeth Camp We are here to add what we can to life, not to get what we can from it. Adrienne Ann Careccia All the times that I've tried keeping all the things I knew inside, it was hard, but it's harder to ignore it. If they were right. I'd agree but its them they know not me; there’s a way and I know that I have to go away. But now I am out and it's no time for play. That is the true season of love when we believe that we alone can love, that no one could ever have loved so before us, and that no one will love in the same way after us. William Michael Chalker One cannot enjoy the pleasure of life, without first having experienced the life without. Deborah Leanette Chaves Part of growing up is learning to let go. But it hurts to let you go. Do you know how to stop the hurt? Look forward, don't look back. Move forward, don't stand still. Never be sad for what's over. Be glad it was yours for the moment. 182 Bessie Lee Clark A certain simplicity of living is usu- ally necessary for happiness. Eddie Charles Crittenden To all my brothers and sisters, take life a little easier and live it up. Remember — you're black and gifted. 183 Michael Richard Crooks Carolyn Cummings The desire of the slothful killeth him for his hands refuse to labour. A heavy guilt rests upon us from what the whites of all nations hove done to the black people. When we do good to them, it is not benevolence, it is atone- ment. I know you didn't expect this because almost none of us black people have thought that maybe we were making a mistake not wondering if there wasn't a special education somewhere for us — a special education for the black man, is now. Donna Sue Head This is a beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. What I do with this day is important because I have exchanged a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes today will be gone forever. I hope that I will not forget the price I paid for it. Marilyn Kay Heiss Life is for the living and love is in the center of it. William Baxter Williams, Jr. The great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do. Danny Joe Wilson I had a really neat saying to put here and wouldn't you know it — I forgot it. Anita Louann Wolfe Avis Efleda Withrow The love in your heart wasn't put there to stay. Love isn't love till you give it awayl If there is righteousness in the heart. There will be beauty in the character. If there is beauty in the character. There will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation. There will be peace in the world. Lollie Maleah Wood The best portion of a good man’s life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love he gave to all men. Edward Woodard Well I've got it. It has taken me twelve years of my life to get it. Now I don't know what to do with it. Celeste Adams Woods We must always have old memories and young hopes. Cynthia Dianne Workman Rainbows are forever. Give one to someone you love. 211 James Allen Wright God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.
