Key Club Interna- tional is the largest high school boys' service club ond is found on campuses across the United States and around the world. The Kiwanis Club sponsors the Key Club and both clubs have enjoyed excellent relations throughout the years. The Carroll High School Key Club successfully lived up to the 1973-1974 administrative theme, Commit Yourself, by donat- ing $150 earned from the peanut brittle sale to the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys' Ranch. Other projects during the year included carwashes and assisting the Kiwanis Club in their annual Pan- cake Supper. The service project for Carroll High this year was the compilation of a Student Directory and this was the most dif- ficult, involved, and rewarding project the Key Club has ever per- formed for the school. In March the Key Club had the opportu- nity to host the Division Rally which was very successful. Some of the ideals odvocated by the Key Club include the pro- motion of the adoption ond application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and social contocts; the develop- ment by precept and example of a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship; and the cooperation in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will. The Key Club is open by invitation to all male students from the ninth through the twelfth grades who display promise of liv- ing up to the purpose, obligations, and ideals of Key Club. 69 OFFICERS: REPORTER: Sammy Judah SWEETHEART: Jeanie Brauer PRESIDENT: Jimmy Sasser VICE PRESIDENT: John Walker TREASURER: Tommy McClendon SECRETARY: Zo Speer Interact Club The Interact Club is a worldwide organization sponsored by Rotary International. The Eagles posted the first winning season since 1969. The Eagles defeated arch rival Enterprise in a thrilling ballgame and defeated Dale County, Eufaula, and Elba handily but lost a heartbreaker to Lanier and ended the first half of the season with a 4-1 mark. The Eagles traveled to Andalusia, Opelika, and Dothan in three consecutive weeks and were tied by Andalusia, a top 3A team, beat Opelika in a hard fought game and were beaten by a very good Dothan club. The Eagles returned home for their final home game and came through with a great homecoming victory over Auburn. Though the season ended on a sour note by losing to Troy it was all in all a great year for Carroll High football and all of its fans. He left us so quickly that it is hard to realize we will never walk and talk with him again. Jeff was the son of SFC and Mrs. Ben Honaker. He was a mem- ber of the 1972 varsity football team and a member of the Future Farmers of America at Carroll High. He was attending the Alabama Technical College as a part time student in aviation maintenance. Jeff had lived in Ozark for the past two years. His death was such an untimely one, but through faith we find a way to carry on. GOODBYE JEFF The howling wind pierced through the soul and here flung the Death Angel’s grasp. Within reach of one we hold dear; whose memory forever we’ll clasp. Into our hearts which he overflowed with kindness to the brim. Though we’ll ne’er again meet in this brief life, he still exists for those who knew him. Memories are special and precious. Their beauty you’ll never erase. So smile, as he did, and with courage, for soon we’ll smile face to face. by Mary Thomas 186 The Senior Class 1974 Senior Class Officers Paula Hyde, Treasurer; Robert Matthews, Reporter; Jim McLaughlin, President; Karen Wilson, Secretary; David Andrews, Vice-President The Senior year is the highlight of a person's high school education. Privileges, parking near the school, and, yes, even selling maga- zines, completing college applications, and taking final exams are all part of the endless rituals a Senior must undergo before receiving his diploma and taking on the increased responsibilities and obligations that accompany it. Most students look forward to their Senior year as a time of fun and enjoyment. This is indeed the case. But it is also a time of leadership, exploring new areas of interest, and maturing as an individual and as a citizen. It is a sad time and also a happy time. Friends left behind are missed but not forgotten. For some the plans for a future life career have already been formulated and now it is only a matter of instituting them. For others, the search has just begun. This year’s Senior Class has demonstrated an extraordinary sense of strength, responsibility, character, dedication, and accomplishment. The Seniors of 1974 have a world full of opportunities ahead of them. The past is now a founda- tion they must build upon and continue to improve. The future is theirs and the fulfillment of their aspirations and dreams determines it. The Seniors of 1974 have sown the seeds of success and achievement and now they must reap their harvest. Clifford C. Abshire Jr. There is but one way to obtain uni- versal peace and that is through love, a small word that means so very much. Timothy Chrisfield Adams There is nothing to fear in life but fear itself. 187 Patricia Lee Allen Life is very simple; it merely consists of learning how to occept the impossible, how to do without the indispensable, and how to endure the insupportable. David Alan Andrews The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen nor heard but are felt in the heart. Cherry Dawn Angle There comes a time in our life when we do something or we refrain from doing something. It is at this time we find out who we really are. Mary Ann Barnhill Shirley Ann Barrow Never doubt the one you love, because love is the greatest thing that life can give; and someday we shall learn it is true. Rhonda Kay Basham Would you knock a man down if you don't like the cut of his clothes? Or put a man away if you don't want to hear whot he knows? Well it's happening right here — when people see something different, fear is the first reaction shown. And I know most of you don't believe it's true or else you don't care — or maybe I'm talk- ing about you. James Sanders Bartley Friendship often ends with love, but love with friendship, never. Don't worry about tomorrow for it is not here. Think of today for it is before you. James Pedersen Bond To have fun by cutting down your friend only causes resentment and a hard- ened heart; to compliment your friend, in good humor, plants the seed to a life-long friendship. Adios, Amigos) Robert Bookman Barbara Jean Brauer If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however meas- ured or far away. Russell Brooks Not for myself I make this prayer, but for this race of mine. That stretches forth from shadowed places dark hands for bread and wine. Tina Ann Brooks If you love something set it free, if it comes back it's yours, if it doesn't, it never was. But if you turn your attention to other things, it comes softly and sits on your shoulder. Daucie Lynn Bruner Please be patient; God isn't finished with me yet. Randy Bruner Lord, when we are wrong make us will- ing to change and when we are right make us easy to live with. To be enjoyed by all regard- less of race, sex, or religion. Mona Rae Byrne When today ends its over and tomor- row will be a new beginning. Patricia Rebecca White There is only one way to get ready for immortality, and that is to love this life and live it as bravely ond faithfully, and cheerfully as we can. Coleen Anne Whitener God speaks sometimes through our cir- cumstances and guides us, opening doors as well as closing them. Rebecca Whitman There are faces I'll remember all my life. Though some have changed, some have gone and some remain. All these faces have their memories of lovers and friends I still can recall. I know I'll often stop and think about them. In my life I've loved them all. Karen Elizabeth Whittaker God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,- the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference. 219 Cynthia Williams Life is so short. I live not for whot I can be given, but what I can earn. And the greatest reward I could receive, is seeing the day when hatred and strife are things of the past, and God's earth will be a par- adise, at last. Karen Monza Wilson I am not afraid of tomorrow for I have seen yesterday and I love today. Phyllis Elaine Wimberley My wish for you: May you always know love, happiness, and peace. Dean Witherington Lisa Kay Wood Sometimes, I think, the things we see are shadows of the things to be, that what we plan, we build; that every hope that hath been crossed and every dream we thought we lost, in heaven shall be ful- filled. Jeffery Alan Woodham The greatest undeveloped territory in the world lies under your hat. Danny Lee Wright, Jr. Discussion is an exchange of knowl- edge; argument is an exchange of igno- rance. 220 Edeltraud Kathe Winland Life is to be fortified by many friend- ships. To love ond to be loved is the greatest happiness of existence. James William Youngblood While I was here it didn't seem like much, but now that I'm leaving I'm going to miss it. May God bless you all. Ad Aras iraven on each heart; found unwavering true, High school days are swiftly passing,- Soon their sands are run. But while we live we'll ever cherish Friendships here begun. The great wings soar — are gone. The sun gashed sky shines wanly in the unrevealing place. — A thin sound of wings throbbing thin and far. . . and silence freezes each inscrutable star.
