Building esoala tes staff s morale Moving from the aged administration building on Tancahua to what used to be the Corpus Christi Bank and Trust building marked a big change for the school district administrative staff in Iuly, 1975. The new building on Leopard Street housed all of the offices under one roof, instead of scattered portables of the previous building. Some of the modern features included wall-to- wall carpet in most of the offices, with contemporary chairs and couches in the waiting areas. The new building was also the home for the Data Processing Center, where computers printed report cards. Extra rooms were converted into a library and larger room for board meetings. Among other facilities were two cafeterias, one for executives and one for employees, and the newest convenience ever in the history of the Corpus Christi Independent School District, an escalator. Also in Iuly U.S. Iudge Owen Cox issued the long-awaited order in the school desegregation case. The plan, developed by County Medical Examiner Ioseph Rupp was programmed by computer to assign as many elementary pupils as possible to schools within two miles of their home. It required busing 1,500 to 2,000 of the district's approximately 17,000 pupils in grades 1-6, fewer than previously suggested plans. In Ianuary Iudge Cox ordered a desegregation plan be studied to include seventh graders for 1976-77. He also ordered the district to draw up a building plan to further integration.
