CARROLL COLLEGE Helena, Montana PART 1977-1978 LIFE HILLTOPPER TABLE OF CONTENTS Editor’s Letter .....................3 Acknowledgements.....................4 Introduction ........................5 Administration .....................19 Seniors.............................23 Activities .........................39 Sports..............................87 Juniors............................107 Sophomores ........................117 Freshman ..........................127 Carroll College Helena, Montana 59601 Before you say, It's about time the yearbooks got here please suspend your criticisms for a moment and become acquainted with a few facts. John Watkins was selected to be the Editor of the HILLTOPPER for the year 1977-1978 I was chosen by John to be Assistant Editor, and Missy Cheslock as Photographer. As the year progressed towards the month of March, it was evident that John had not planned any organization and was simply not starting or getting anything done. Those of us on the staff were not going to wait until the last minute to start working on the yearbook, so we appealed to the ASCC in the last part of February to help us get some action. They drew up a contract that John was expected to meet, giving him 2 weeks to meet its requirements, sign it, and return it to them. He did none of that. Consequently, he was removed from his position by the Dean of Students, but this action was not taken urtil late April, thus making me Editor, and Missy that of Assistant Editor and Photographer. After all the meetings and oppositions were overcome, we now had a yearbook of 180 pages to complete, but at the same time, final tests were within sight. With pressure building, we got the yearbook planned and organized and had about 40 pages done when school was terminated. The rest of the book waited until summer and this school year to be completed. Although this yearbook is not officially dedicated to anyone, Missy Cheslock deserves to be recognized. She has put in many more hours than anyone else, and is the true force behind this yearbook. By unselfishly giving her time and talents to this publication, Missy sacrificed many of her personal goals. The pulse behind this yearbook came from a very small group of concerned and dedicated students. We cared enough at first to want a quality yearbook. As we fell deeper and deeper into the mess of missed deadlines, lack of communication, lack of time, and lack of input, we once more appealed to the student body for assistance in producing this yearbook. Two people responded. Whether it is recognizable or not, the HILLTOPPER is a student publication for and about Carroll College, but why should a small handful of slaving students suffer w'hen some of the remaining thousand of students don't offer their cooperation? Before you surrender to the human's ability to criticize, please remember that the apathy during the creation of this publication will eventually show in the end. I thank anyone who helped in any way, for their time and energy in producing this HILLTOPPER yearbook. It is hard to start recalling names and knowing where to stop, so, you know who you are, and I appreciate what you've done. Thank you mostly to those of the student body and faculty who cooperated with us, and who will continue to strive to make the HILLTOPPER a high quality publication for and of Carroll College.
