The Roger Brooke Taney Club, named for Roger Brooke Taney, American Jurist, was further enlarged this year and divided into four major divisions because of its size—122 members. It includes students eligible for Borromeo Club and Pre-Med Club. The primary purpose of the organization is to promote student activities, both intellectual and social. President John Ader led the club in striving to fullfill its objectives through giving an all school summer picnic in Butte, sponsoring its first Homecoming float, presenting three speakers to groups averaging 88 people, holding the traditional Taney Formal, and starting a new tradition of Club Communion breakfasts. Colors In the spring of 1960, a small group—undesirous of publicity, but energetically interested in establishing a literary magazine at Carroll College—formed to collect material to be published under the name of COLORS. Dr. Ward, head of the English department, monitored the project. The editor, an English major, John Lopach, is pictured among the graduating seniors on page twenty-five. A poetic, analogical LEGEND that introduced the publication is symbolized by the sketch, reproduced at the left. As, in the gold pan, the dross has been washed away and only the nuggets of gold remain, so in COLORS the soil and the stone of raw reality and everyday experience” have been removed from students ideas, and only the essence of their thought remains—their self-expression reflected in the first literary magazine of Carroll College. The Carroll Young Republicans, although a minority in numbers on campus, have reached a majority of students in attempting to keep them politically informed. Having a successful year, the Young Republicans were responsible for the appearance of a political column in the PROSPECTOR, featuring authors from the field of politics. Those writing for the column were Mr. Lou Welch, U.S. Senate candidate; Mrs. Bertha Wie-loff, former President of the Montana Federation of Republican Women’s Clubs; and Mr. B. Baillie, former state chairman of the Young Republicans. The Club has attempted to revive interest in politics and it hopes to further interest even more in the future. Officers—D. Peters, V.
