I ' , Y 7 ' meet at the Schenley Oval because the city coaches would not recognize Mr. Evan ' ' ' as nv 1 ' ' . - I 2 , ,, . . , . 2, ,I S .I I 4, V 5 , A T 1 Y H X Football Under the guiding, h ind of Coach R llph R fihniser the L irrick 1947 grid ders iccumulated a record that would make any school proud Lo captains Harry Iennmgs and Ed Clemens led a squad that collected two championships The lri idic ind lhe Qection II Lhampionship of the city ln compiling this record the eridders bettered the pig., skinners of Brentwood Baldwin Allegheny l inelew Perry Olly er and Fifth Avenue lhe only defeats that showed were administered by 'Vlt lebanon in a non league contest and Westinghouse in the City Football Championship Game held at Forbes Field Carrick s stalwart eley en won recognition from other sources George Rodg ers guard and Fd Clemens were chosen as members of the Post Ga7ette Scholastic All City ldeam Harry ennmgs was chosen bv the Sun Telegraph as a truly ex ceptlonal half back while im Hoffman full back and Norm Qoukup tackle were also awarded honorable mentions in the Post Ga7ette all City lineup George Rodgers was chosen by his team mates as the most yaluable player and iecen ed his award from the Pittsburgh Press at 1 banquet December l l he squad consisted of George Kerr and Don McG1nn at ends Bill Nl ihonex and Norm Qoukup worked as tackles' George Rodgers and lom Mel-lugh filled the guard positions' lid Clemens at piyot' Bob Hodgson called signals' ennines and Bredl showed at the half back while jim Hoffmann was the season s fullback. Senior Girls9 thletics . . . The Senior Grrls Athletncs are under the sponsorshlp of Mlss Evelyn Spmd er The grrls of Carrlck are interested rn athletics and many extra perlods are spent on the gym floor play mg whatever game IS m season Not only do the grrls serve as momtors and squad leaders for the regular gym mtra mural program Carrlck grrls ranked Hrst rn the number of sports offered on last year's mtra mural program Carrlck glrls placed second ln the number of glrls taught to pass the swlm mmg tests required by the Cnty School System l'he program of mtra mural sports has interested a large percentage of girls each year, even though It requlres after school tlme . . , . . . . Bob Kofliler, stage lU'll1'lgCf and orchestra leader, tied the play together and introduced the acts. Variety was added to the production by lillian Urban oan leonard 'n Lynch and the chorus. The show-stealcr of the exening was '1 South American trio composed of Bob Qusick Nick Vurdelja and Russ Backes. A group of girls Ruth Kirchner, Greta Kildare Nancy Lou Burress Ruth Keller oanne O Han- lon Donna Segner, oan Lewis and Hope Mervosh performed a typical Negro dance. The show was highlighted by a fencing team from Carnegie Tech. Music was provided by the newly organized swing band. The varied side shows ably carried out the Southern theme. Faculty spon- sors for the production were Miss Evelyn Spindler and Mr. Harry Dittmar, gen- eral supervisors, Miss Marion Clark, stage show, Miss Isabelle Harris and Mr. lf. Nl. Gehring, music.
