Senior Class History The senior class of 1952 was the first class to enter the eighth grade at Caroline High School. Though we weren ' t overjoyed at the prospect of another school year, now on the eve of graduation, we have few regrets. That year we got a taste of every course of study Caroline offered and planned our future courses. We also had our first opportunity to engage in the social and scholastic activities of Caroline High. As freshmen we experienced another first at Caroline, our first football game. The first football team in Caroline county. Our team made a good showing, too, by winning three, losing three, and tying one. By our sophomore year we had begun to grow up. and also had begun to take on responsibilities. There were no juniors that year, so the responsibility of enter- taining the seniors fell on us. After much discussion, we decided on a banquet and dance. None of us seniors will ever forget the work and the fun we had getting ready for that big affair. The prom was a hugh success and will linger long in our mem- ories. The Caroline High Band also originated that year and had its first concert, thanks to our patient instructor. Mr. Schmidt. During our junior year, we assumed, to a greater extent, the dignity befitting upper classmen. In addition to that we decided that graduation was drawing near, and it wasn ' t at all a bad idea to take our studies more seriously than we had pre- viously done. We also started our first dramatics club under the direction of Mr. DuBose and gave a charming little comedy entitled Little Darling. Mr. DuBose also sponsored our first prayer meeting group that year. Then came the best year of all--our senior year. No senior will ever forget the hustle and bustle of the last year at high school. What with cap and gown measure- ments, class ring picking and practicing the senior play, Old Doc, by Jean Lee Latham, selecting a motto, and commencement rehearsal, our senior life has been a very busy one. Our sponsor. Miss Conway, has been most helpful in guiding us and making our last year a memorable and wonderful experience. Our class motto is Not merely to exist, but to amount to something in life. Our class colors are green and white. ec-s r 1. Valentine party. 2. Sun bathing. 3. Time out for a snapshot. 4. Caroline Swamps Courtland 34-6 In Homecoming Game Caroline High spoiled Court- land’s homecoming with a convin- ing 34-6 triumph in a hard fought game at Courtland last Friday. The Cardinals scored five touch- downs and made four conversions to run up their biggest score of the year. Caroline elected to revi ive to open the game. Rozelle returned the kick to the forty yard line and the Cardinals promptly marched sixty yards for a score. Marvin Wright connected on two passes to left end Clark, in the drive which was climaxed by a two yard scor- ing plunge by James Schools. Caroline kicked off to Courtland and they proceeded to start a drive of their own. Operating out of a single wing, they rolled up two first downs before they were forced to punt. Caroline started another scoring drive. Wright completed a thirty-five yard pass to Bunny Collins just before the Stafford ' Cats Edge Caroline By 46 to 43 The Stafford Wildcats rolled up an early lead and held on grimly last night to nose out the fast-finishing Caroline Card- inals, 46-43. Stafford held a comfortable 26-9 margin as the first half buz- zer sounded but the gap narrow- ed quickly as the Cardinals went on a 34-point second half scoring spree. This area’s two top scorers had to yield honors last night to Stafford Guard Jim McKelvey, who swrished in seven field goals and three foul shots for 17 points. Peyton Farmer, Caroline guard, and Delbert Wilson, Staf- ford forward, collected 10 and 12, respectively. Both Farmers and Wilson’s av- erages suffered. Before last night’s game, Farmer was lead- ing the area scoring pack with a 19-1 average and Wilson was in the second spot with 17.4. Stafford has no more games scheduled this week, while the Cardinals will play host to Mont- pelier Friday.
