1 . 1 Having lost six players from the l98O squad, four of which were starters, this was definitely a rebuilding year for the Lady Trojans. Only two seniors, Kim Miles, hitter, and Elaina Mar- shall, setter, returned from last year's starting team. However, with a I6-I3 regular season re- cord and a third place confer- ence finish, this young team compiled more wins this season than any team in the four years of volleyball at Carolina. The success of this season was largely due to the hard work in off-season and pre-season of this group of athletes. With one junior, six sophomores, and six freshman returning, a strong, experienced nucleus remains for the next season. - Coach Betty Moore VBI' ito O0 .E :E Q. V5 Sportsf59

It was up to the team to prove it. Their first goal was to win the Greenville Christmas Tourna- ment, one that had eluded Caro- lina's grasp for many years. The team seemed to trade a win for a loss, some times, the cagers showed brillance, while at others, they showed little of anything. The season seemed to be one of sur- prise and intrigue.
