She has been a teacher at Caro- lina for four years and has al- ready contributed to CaroIina's past. Three of her four years at CHS she has dedicated to the yearbook as advisor. She has helped coach the Aca- dedication demic Team and has also been an English department chair- man. For the l98I-82 school year she was voted teacher of the year at Carolina. Both students and teachers respect her judg- ment and treasure her friend- ship. Being a teacher and a friend takes a very special per- son. The Silver Anniversary Volume of the Carolinian is dedicated to Mrs. Nancy Zende for her con- cern, encouragement, and over- all participation in school activi- ties. I8fAcademics

twenty-five years of academics , x vm if C 37 ' ' Mr. Joe Robert Crouch, current- ly the principal of Welcome Ele- mentary School, taught at Caro- lina High School between l96O and I968. He remembers the fac- ulty at Carolina seemed to get along quite well. That hasn't changed. Mr. Crouch noted sev- eral things that have changed over the years. The most noticeable changes have been the school building it- self. The first and fourth wings were added in the mid-I96O's. The Auto Mechanics shop was also added then. Although Mr. Crouch has lost touch with much that goes on here, he still keeps up with the football scores. People like Mr. .loe Robert Crouch have played a part in CaroIina's interesting and varied history. 1' 1 i ti' AcademicsfI7
